Today we’d like to introduce you to Madeleine Day.
Hi Madeleine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’m 3rd generation in the window treatment space so I grew up in this industry! My parents and grandparents entered the industry at the same time in two different markets.
I started working for our Chicagoland location full-time when I was in college and completely fell in love with it. After learning the back end of the business, I started designing custom window treatments for my clients and the rest is history!
After getting married last year, my husband and I relocated to Nashville. Now, I’m one of the co-owners of our new location The Well Dressed Window. Moving here and becoming an entrepreneur has been an incredible but wild experience! Doing everything yourself can be challenging but that’s when having an amazing team and support system comes into play.
Today, I’m partnering with interior designers across Nashville to provide window treatments for their clients!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey, like anyone else’s, has not been a smooth road. Earlier this year, I struggled with defining success in my life. Did it look like having a good work/life balance or hitting a revenue goal? I reached out to Tiffany Napper, my business coach, after feeling burnt out and tired. She’s helped me define what success looks like for me as well as strategies to put in place to grow my business.
Overcoming the obstacle of burnout was at first challenging but now I’m proud to say I have strategies put in place. Journaling, growing in my faith, prioritizing my physical health, and making time for hobbies are habits now! Without those things, I wouldn’t be able to continue growing a business and stay sane at the same time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m the owner of The Well Dressed Window – Tennessee, a luxury custom window treatment company. We specialize in Hunter Douglas products, custom drapery, Roman shades, and motorized window treatments. We are known for our show-stopping window treatments of all kinds and concierge-style service.
That’s what sets us apart from others in this space! We are a one-stop shop. Custom window treatments are a luxury item. The concierge-style experience our clients receive from start to finish is as well.
I’m most proud of my installation team and workroom. Our workroom and installation team is meticulous about what they do! We’ve been working with our workroom for 18 years and there’s a reason for that. Their attention to detail can be compared to none. Without them, we wouldn’t be here!
What does success mean to you?
My definition of success might sound a little backward to some. Ultimately, I’m a wife before I’m a business owner. My husband and family come first in all scenarios. If my family and I are healthy and happy, work then becomes my priority.
No season is ever going to look the same. Sometimes, I’m needed more at home than at work. Other times, my family doesn’t need me as much and work does. As long as I keep my priorities straight and make adjustments as I need to, I’m successful.
Because of that mental shift, I’ve made, my clients and family both receive my best. I trust that the doors will always open and God will provide!
