Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcella Fiorenzi.
Hi Marcella, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
After going through many health issues and hardships at a young age, I created a small photography business in my hometown of Montville, New Jersey. I primarily photographed families, weddings, and graduations. I pursued a degree in Human Development and Family Services at Penn State University Park and graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science. After graduation, I began my master’s degree at Montclair State University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. All throughout college and post-grad, I continued exploring my passion for photography on the side. During the pandemic this last year, I created an Instagram account called Had Me At Nashville to display my love for the city of Nashville, photography, country music, fashion, and support of small businesses. The positive feedback and responses I began to get through my page has been incredible – I began collaborating with all the small businesses of Nashville to help with marketing & bringing in revenue for them during this difficult year. In January 2021, I decided to officially move to Nashville and explore the new world I had created through following my creativity and heart. During the day, I use my counseling degree as a family therapist and at night, I live my dream as a photographer with small businesses and incredibly talented country musicians.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
From a young age, I suffered from many health issues from Chronic Lyme Disease. For years I went undiagnosed, resulting in being on bed-rest and enduring five hour IV therapy daily for some time during my teenage years. The support of my family and friends, country music, and photography were all things that helped me overcome this challenging time in my life. I pursued a degree in mental health counseling to provide a support for others that helped me so much during a time in my life that I felt pretty hopeless. Photography was a form of therapy for me, a way to connect with others and express my creative side. Moving to Nashville after being sick for so long and unsure of being too far away from home was a huge step for me. I feel so grateful to be able to experience filled with so much talent, heart, and community.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Had Me At Nashville began as a creative outlet for me. I had visited Nashville for years and had so much content from exploring this beautiful city. Music City always gave me feelings of hope, peace, and excitement. I wanted to share my love for it through social media. I began to share hotspots of Nashville for food, bars, small businesses, writers rounds, and the overall community that Tennessee has. As I saw how much small businesses and artists appreciated my page, I decided to explore it further as a business. I am most proud of how photography was always an important part of my life throughout anything I was facing and how it has now lead me to truly finding a world for myself where I feel I belong. I would have never thought my small little business called Marcella Photography (very original) would one day lead me to Nashville. I feel so grateful to all the small businesses for being so open to working with me and responding to my content so well. I am thankful to the country music community for letting a girl from New Jersey be a part of a world of music that had helped me through some tough times in my life. Being around the talent and hard work that goes into making this city what it is, is something I’ll never take for granted.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Above all, my family will forever be my greatest gift in life. I come from a huge Italian family who from a young age taught me what unconditional love, acceptance, hard work, and healthy relationships are. Through the hardships my family has faced, the strong relationships we have all established have encouraged me to be resilient and hopeful, always. My parents and sister, Ally have forever been my biggest cheerleaders and have shaped me into who I am. My grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends from New Jersey, Penn State, and now Nashville all continue to impact me in the best ways through every stage of my life. My sister has always shown me how dreaming big, working hard, and loving along the way brings so much happiness to life. Small businesses such as SVM Boutique, LA Green Nashville, Love Nashville, and BlueBird Boutique have all been so supportive of me. Every Thursday night, I am a part of Grindhouse Nashville – a writer’s round held at Live Oak where so many amazing artists come out and perform their work. Mark Chandler, Mike Guinard, and Davis Corley have all been such awesome mentors to me.
