Check Out Matt Morrison’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Morrison.

Hi Matt, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
’m a photographer and videographer from The South Cumberland pleateau region of Tennessee, and a lot of my work started with simply paying attention to the places around me. I grew up in Grundy County, surrounded by state parks, small towns, backroads, trailheads, and people with stories worth remembering. At first, photography was just a way for me to document what I was seeing close to home, but over time it became a bigger part of how I understood and shared this place.
That has led me into a mix of photo and video work, from local stories and events to tourism, conservation, commercial projects, and outdoor-based storytelling. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to work with Tennessee State Parks, the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, and other tourism partners across the region. Even as the work has grown, I still try to approach it the same way I started: by creating images and films that feel honest, grounded, and connected to the people and places in front of me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My photo/Video career didn’t start until I was in my early 30’s, and I was already married with children and had a career as a Union Carpenter working as a contractor for TVA. Taking the plunge to work for myself was a huge and scary step, and still to this day, it has been challenging but has also been very rewarding.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a freelance photographer and videographer here in Tennessee. I am known for my work in the tourism industry here in the state. Over time, my photography and video work have been used by Tennessee State Parks, the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, and regional tourism partners, with photo credits appearing in outlets including Garden & Gun, Southern Living, Outside, and The Tennessee Conservationist.

Some of my most proud achievements include creating marketing content for Tennessee State Parks. This content highlights the numerous new parks that have been established over the past few years, such as Head Of The Crow State Park, Cherokee Trail of Tears State Park, and Cardwell Mountain State Park, to name a few.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I’ve learned that paying attention to detail pays off, and that has worked well for me in acquiring work and making new connections in the industry. I am extremely proud of being from Tennessee, and I want to make sure that I show it off in the best possible way.
