Meet Michael Hastings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Hastings.

Hi Michael, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started bartending about nine years ago. I saw flair at a TGI Fridays event in Ohio and thought it was so cool I had to learn it. I’ve always been competitive, so when I found out there were competitions for flair, I immediately started dedicating all my spare time to practicing to get better. I landed one bar job, then another, and more and more kept coming. I moved around a bit, working at different style places in the service industry until I knew what kind of bartender career I wanted to take. Instead of hoping to one day open my own bar. I wanted to provide an awesome service that could be brought anywhere to all kinds of events! Festivals, and corporate events, to weddings and private parties! With last year really putting a lot of people in my industry out of work, I decided I wanted to start my company. I had the experience and finally had the time to devote to starting up. And now, with much luck and help, I have been doing great this year!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, definitely not. Flair, in general, has a bad rep for producing carefree and dangerous barre Fees, when in fact, it is just the opposite. As competing bartenders, we take our passion very seriously. We have a love for bartending that pushes us to want to continuously improve our skills.

I also think the biggest struggle for me was combining my passion and artistic side with the analytical side of running a business. I have read more finance, investing, and entrepreneur books since I started my company last year than all of my time in school.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do tricks and entertain guests for events and parties while also competing against other bartenders for a top place. We must create our own amazing cocktails, which we get judged on. I run every part of my event service right now, so I have picked up many technical skills as well, such as web design, SEO marketing. Business uses for social media, contract writing, creating quote estimates, and so much more!

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I had a dream a long time ago and decided it was worth pursuing and achieving. I believe any dream can be made a reality if you are willing to do what it takes and sacrifice time and effort to make it happen!
