Check Out Michelle’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle.

Hi Michelle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a 21-year old pop artist who was born and raised in Las Vegas. I went to Southern Virginia University for 2 years to study commercial music, but they fired the commercial music director, Jason Deere. With no indication that they were going to hire someone new, I transferred to Utah Valley University to continue my music education there. However, through Jason Deere, I was able to score a summer 2023 internship in Bryce Canyon, Utah to run the sound and social media for a country music cover show. Through that internship, I was then able to score a summer internship in Nashville in 2024. This was at Brown Sellers Brown LLC, whose biggest artist is Joe Nichols. When the summer was ending, I knew I wanted to stay here in Nashville. I asked if they would consider hiring me full-time and they did. I’ve been working as a financial and marketing assistant at BSB since August 2024 and still do!
I’m still a full-time college student doing UVU online. It’s been rough, but so worth it. I go around town playing songwriter rounds, acoustic sets, and plan events for the label. I’ve released 3 songs since moving here; all of which I’ve produced. I practice singing, songwriting, and playing guitar/piano every single day as much as I can. That’s the magic of Nashville; it’s so inspiring to see so many musicians love the same thing and how they harness their craft. It’s been awfully busy with the job, college, and music, but I couldn’t wish for more.
I’m looking forward to graduating this summer in August. Having that degree and being done with school will be a huge weight off my back. I’m also looking forward to recording 2 more singles for this year! One will be co-produced with pop producer Kory Shore and the other will be produced entirely by me. I know I’m in the very, very beginning stages of the career, but 2 years ago, I thought a music career would be impossible for me. Now the doors are wide open in Nashville!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all. I’ve struggled a ton with depression and anxiety; finally got diagnosed with anxiety in early 2024. However, I am so happy to say that through therapy, church and medication, I’ve been able to overcome those challenges. I feel like a brighter, happier, and livelier person. Another challenge, but also amazing blessing, has been meeting my current boyfriend. We met at the Bryce Canyon internship in 2023 and we’ve been dating since then. However, we’ve had to be long distance for a majority of it, finally be close-distance when he moved to Nashville in November 2024. He is now back in Bryce Canyon until August 2025, when he’ll be back in Nashville. No one talks about the struggles of a long-distance relationship enough. My boyfriend has been my number one fan and supporter; completely changing the way I view myself. He is now my home and it’s hard to have that be so far from you.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have 2 goals in music: be a successful pop artist, and be a successful multi-genre producer. I also have a love for songwriting, in which I try to write songs in many genres. To me, music is music, no matter what genre it is. The only categories are good music and bad music.
Recently, I spend my time performing in rounds and sets around Nashville; usually, I’m the only pop person in the rounds, but that’s okay with me. Usually, it’s also okay for the audience to hear something different. I’m definitely not known for anything…yet. However, I’d love to be known as a talented female producer who made her successful pop songs from start to finish. I’d love to be known as a great performer with a great voice.
I’ve been taking voice lessons for 8 years and singing in choirs for longer than that. Originally, my voice lessons were geared towards classical and musical theater singing, until I switched to more pop singing 3 years ago. I’m the most proud of my ability to produce and make cool sounds that songs need, and my singing voice. I also love being a female producer; as I have yet to meet any in my time here in Nashville.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that I can do it. Gosh, the amount of doubt, insecurity, depression, and jealousy that has blocked me has gone away. And quite frankly, even if I don’t end up being “famous,” I don’t care. I want to make music for a living; I want to sing my own songs for a living too. In a way, I’m already fulfilling that dream. Being able to change that mindshift has been life-changing, and now I work harder than ever to achieve my goals.
