Today we’d like to introduce you to Miggs
Hi MIGGS, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Miggs—short for Miguel—and as an artist, I go by MIGGS. I am a Texas-raised, Nashville-recorded country artist, I’m here to do my best to make noise across the world while staying true to my roots. Getting started under the city lights of Austin, the Live Music Capital of the World. It’s where my love for music first came alive—a love I’ve carried everywhere and getting to play in some of the most incredible places, thanks to 12 years of continued service in the United States Air Force. Now, I have planted roots in Pasadena, Maryland, writing and recording songs about family, friends, and the damn good times we all love. Music has always been a part of who I am.
At three years old, I was already belting out Roxanne by The Police in the backseat of my dad’s Lincoln Town Car. In school, I found my stage, performing in plays, musicals, and choir. The defining moment came in high school, though, when a scheduling fluke landed me in choir instead of calculus. That “mistake” turned into solos, state competitions, and making it into the elite Men’s All-State 5A Choir. That’s when I knew music wasn’t just a passion—it was my calling.
High school was also when I picked up a guitar. My dad gave me a Behringer electric guitar one Christmas, and armed with Guitar for Dummies, I taught myself to play. From my local church’s worship teams to leading music at multiple churches over the years, I grew as a performer and as a person. As I got older, I played in bands and honed my craft on stages of all kinds.
In 2012, I balanced my passion for music with the need to “get out of dodge” by joining the Air Force. Those years were unforgettable, blending duty and music. I played everything from shows in Portugal to the Elvis Presley Music Festival in Germany and acoustic sets for troops in Afghanistan. It was humbling to see how music could bring people together in even the toughest moments.
I left active duty in 2019 out of Germany, just before COVID changed the world. After having a conversation with the man upstairs, I said “point me where you want me” – Moving to Maryland, I began playing acoustic sets that helped establish my presence in the local music scene. Maryland had a thirst for authentic country music, and I brought my Texas heart to every performance. Over the past few years, it has been a new chapter of life. Meeting my wife and building a life, our two dogs, our daughter, and our first baby together on the way. Life is great, my heart is full, and I’m incredibly blessed.
2024 was a breakthrough year for my career. In April, I recorded my first three singles in Nashville and competed in Rolling Stone’s America’s Next Top Hitmaker. By October, I was back in Nashville, recording four more singles, debuting at iconic venues like Alley Taps and participating in the Majestic Ape Studios Songwriter Round. These milestones marked a new era, cementing my place in the country music scene.
Looking back, the journey has been nothing short of amazing, full of grit, grace, and growth. Through it all, music has been my constant—a way to share stories, inspire connection, and make people feel like they’re home. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and can’t wait for what’s next.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life is rarely a smooth road, and my journey has certainly been filled with challenges. But every high and every low has shaped me into the artist and person I am today. My faith in God has been my anchor through it all, reminding me to stay strong and keep moving forward.
The biggest hurdle for me is, well, myself. I am my own worst critic, especially when it comes to songwriting. Writing isn’t easy—it’s deeply personal, and I want every song to be the best, catchiest, and most authentic it can be. That pressure sometimes leads to writer’s block. For context, the seven songs I recorded in 2024 were written over the course of four years, and they have gone through countless revisions. My goal moving forward is to write more consistently, collaborate with other artists—and continue growing as a songwriter. Whether it’s me or another artist cutting the song, I just want to keep honing my craft.
Another major challenge is getting heard. As an independent, growing artist, breaking through the noise is tough. Social media platforms, Spotify, and other streaming services have helped, but music isn’t my full-time job—at least, not yet. Balancing my music career with life’s responsibilities can be exhausting. Booking solo, duo, or full-band gigs while also creating engaging content, writing music, while playing gigs—photos, videos, and behind-the-scenes footage—for multiple platforms requires a lot of time and effort. I know some artists hire social media managers, but for now, it’s all on me.
Lastly, I have found great success booking local gigs thanks to great friends, word of mouth, and loyal fans. These connections have opened doors to fantastic venues, but without a booking agent or manager, reaching out to new places can be difficult. Some venues don’t respond to emails or calls, making it harder to break into certain circuits.
Despite the challenges, I stay positive by surrounding myself with supportive friends, band mates, mentors, and a community that lifts me up. I’ve learned to embrace the hustle and use each struggle as a learning opportunity. And when others come to me with similar questions or challenges, I do my best to pay it forward and help them along their own journey.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a country artist and songwriter who writes real songs about life, love, and the stories that make us who we are. As a Texas-raised musician with homegrown roots, I bring a blend of southern rock, traditional country, and modern flair to my music. Whether I’m performing an intimate acoustic set or playing with my full band, my goal is always the same: to connect with people through relatable, authentic storytelling.
What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come in this journey. Recording my first seven singles in 2024 and making my debut in Nashville were significant milestones that represented years of hard work and growth. Those moments reinforced my belief in the power of perseverance and the importance of taking risks to pursue your dreams.
What sets me apart is the journey I’ve traveled to get here and the diversity of experiences I bring to my music. My 12 years in the Air Force gave me a global perspective and a deep appreciation for different cultures and life experiences. From playing acoustic sets in deployed environments for my fellow service members to headlining festivals in Europe, I’ve had unique opportunities to bring music to unexpected places.
Additionally, I take pride in balancing my music career with my personal life. Being based in Maryland, I’ve built a local following by staying true to myself, actively engaging with the community, and putting on authentic, energetic performances. My work ethic—both on and off the stage—is driven by my desire to honor my roots, connect with others, and continually grow as an artist. Ultimately, I’m not just focused on creating music but creating moments—whether it’s a crowd singing along to a familiar chorus or someone connecting with a lyric on a personal level. That’s what I do, and that’s what I hope to be known for.
Any big plans?
Looking ahead, I’m excited about continuing to grow both personally and professionally. One of the most significant changes coming up is starting a family—my wife and I are expecting our first child, which is an incredible blessing. I amm looking forward to stepping into this new chapter and finding ways to balance being a dad and pursuing my music career.
On the music side, I’m focused on building on the momentum I’ve gained this year. After recording seven singles in 2024 and debuting at some iconic Nashville venues, I am working on releasing four of those songs and sharing them with a broader audience after the first release. I am also actively booking gigs for 2025—everything from local shows in Maryland to potential return trips to Nashville, festivals and beyond.
Collaborating with other artists is another priority. I believe some of the best music comes from working with others, and I’m planning to connect with fellow songwriters and musicians to keep expanding my creativity and perspective.
Long-term, my goal is to continue to live life to the fullest. If the call is made to make music my full-time career, I will answer. I want to reach as many people as possible with my songs and performances, whether that’s through streaming platforms, live shows, or both. I’m also dreaming big about playing larger stages and eventually going on tour with my band.
In everything I’m planning, I’m guided by the same principle: staying authentic and building genuine connections with my audience. I’m excited about what’s ahead and grateful for every opportunity to do what I love.
