Today we’d like to introduce you to Myesha Ramsey.
Hi Myesha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised just outside Nashville in Murfreesboro, Tennessee (1998). Even as a child, my creative spirit was evident, expressing itself through various forms from reconstructing clothes to painting and dance. This need for expression has been a constant throughout my life.
During the COVID-19 pandemic while in college, I moved to Nashville for better opportunities. While working in the service industry, my creativity found outlets in unexpected ways, from restaurant decorations to impromptu photoshoots. A tower moment came on Christmas in 2020 when the Nashville bombing led to job displacement. It was then that I launched my photography business, ‘Views from Marz,’ fueled by a deep passion for visual expression that expanded beyond my paintings.
The following years presented significant personal hurdles, including multiple challenges with COVID, homelessness, and job loss. Throughout this period, art became my lifeline, fostering a profound connection with nature, self, and others, and instilled in me faith, compassion, understanding, and trusting the process – themes that are reflected in my YouTube channel, ‘Delightful Unpredictability.’ This resilience and dedication to my craft have recently been recognized through my acceptance as a SoHo House x Creative Futures Collective Artist Fellow, selection as 1 of 44 2025 SoundWaves featured artists at the Geodis Park Gallery (celebrating Nashville’s creative spirit), and being awarded a 2025 Artist in Residence position abroad.
Through it all, I continue to pursue my artistic passions with intention and gratitude, shaped by the unwavering support and love I’ve received.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like many artists, I’ve faced challenges in navigating the balance between creative passion and the practicalities of building a sustainable career. There have been moments of uncertainty, financial strain, and the internal struggle with self-doubt. However, these experiences have been imperative in shaping my resilience, clarifying my vision, and fueling my determination to create meaningful work.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Creative Black Woman. What I do is centered around visual storytelling and rooted in my authentic artistic expression. As the Founder and Executive Curator of The Marz Edit, I’ve established and lead a creative agency, where I direct the creation and execution of visual projects, ensuring they align with client narratives and artistic goals. I am also a visual artist, with painting being one of my first passions that I consistently return to through acrylic and canvas.
My specialization lies in observing, crafting, and expressing narratives that celebrate the soul, the beauty of melanin, and the power of human connection through my art. I am known for my ability to connect and create imaginative worlds and concepts, and for my commitment to empowering my community.
One thing I’m most proud of is my journey of empowering Creative Black Women. Overcoming my own experiences with hiding and imposter syndrome, I’m passionate about guiding others towards confidence and fulfillment through their creativity. This passion has led to ventures like Healing in Color Co. and my active engagement in the local arts scene, supporting fellow artists and exhibitions.
What sets me apart, I believe, is my keen eye for detail and ability to connect and find quality in spaces that go overlooked, not only in my career and social connections but also in my life. This is coupled with my multidisciplinary approach rooted in my diverse background and studies in Cinematic Arts, Media, and Positive Psychology. This combination allows me to merge creative passions and life experiences to create resonant and impactful media, inviting viewers to connect their personal experiences to broader cultural significance.
Ultimately, I strive to bring my inner world out through my skills and experiences, with the hope of inspiring others to do the same.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
My perspective on risk has evolved, particularly through my experience with Corner to Corner. Being accepted into their program to build my business felt like a significant step, especially considering my circumstances at the time – working as an independent contractor doing gig work just to make ends meet.
That 10-week course was pivotal, not just for business development, but also mentally and spiritually. It was there that I realized the true risk I was taking was in not pursuing my passions for healing, empowering others, and creative expression.
Now, I don’t view many things as inherent risks. Instead, I see them often as either fears – which I take as an invitation to pursue what truly resonates with me – or as lessons that might require a bit more learning and attention. Ultimately, I believe these experiences, whether perceived as risks or not, contribute to our wholeness and fulfillment.
Looking back, I’ve taken what others might consider major risks. Moving to Nashville in 2019 without a solid plan felt like a leap of faith. Quitting my first job because I felt there had to be more to life was another. Even solo traveling in a foreign country for the first time was a significant step outside my comfort zone. Yet, these ‘risks’ have been some of the most enlightening and transformative experiences of my life, and I don’t regret taking a single one.
