Check Out Natalie Layne’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Layne.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado – in a very musical family that all loves Jesus! My dad played trombone and bass, and my mom was always singing around the house. My grandma taught me to play piano and there was always music at family gatherings. I started leading worship at New Life Church alongside amazing songwriters like Cory Asbury, Jon Egan, and Jared Anderson. During my teenage years, I learned so much about worship and songwriting! I moved to Nashville to study music at Belmont University and never left the city.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve known since I was a little girl that I wanted to make music, so there’s always been that drive to keep going. But of course, dreams come with challenges! The biggest challenge is probably keeping focus on the meaning and message of the music alongside all of the practical elements. Starting a business is hard, and is even harder as a musician! It’s been so important to surround myself with the right people that support my music AND want to be part of something that’s bigger than all of us.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Some people call me the “Sara Bareilles of Christian music,” and I think it fits! I play piano, write, and sing my own songs, and recently have been touring with other Christian artists and getting my songs out there on TikTok. I’ve always wanted to make Christian music that families love to listen to and is interesting for all ages!

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My parents bought me a little keyboard when I was 1 or 2 years old. I remember banging on that little keyboard on the fireplace growing up.
