Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Jo.
Hi Natasha Jo, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My creative journey has never really followed a straight path – and honestly, I think that’s what makes it mine.
I’ve always been drawn to creating things with my hands and bringing ideas from my imagination to life. Over the years, that creativity has taken many different forms. I’ve worked as a cosmetologist and makeup artist, explored special effects makeup, and eventually found my way into photography, where I’ve spent the last 12 years building my business, Storybook Studios. Photography allowed me to combine so many things I love – storytelling, beauty, fantasy, and creating a little bit of magic for people.
As my photography career grew, I found myself wanting to create in other ways too. That eventually led me back to painting and making art, jewelry, and whimsical pieces through my creative business, Luna Creations. I love working with unusual and natural materials, including real butterfly wings, feathers, shells, and anything else that sparks an idea. I’m especially drawn to vintage, fairytale, whimsical, and slightly unconventional things.
Today, I’m continuing to grow as an artist while becoming more involved in the local art and maker community here in Middle Tennessee. Selling my work at the Nashville Farmers Market has been a really exciting part of that journey. There’s something special about putting something you created with your own hands in front of people and getting to see their reaction to it.
I think the biggest theme throughout my journey has been that I’ve never been very good at staying inside one creative box. I’m a little bit of a “go with the flow” artist. I follow whatever inspires me, learn as I go, and let one creative idea lead me to the next. I don’t necessarily know exactly where this path is going to take me and I kind of love that.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges has been learning to pivot and adapt as the creative industry changes, especially with the rise of AI. As an artist and photographer, it can be discouraging to see something that takes hours of creativity and hands-on work recreated in seconds. But it’s also pushed me to lean into what makes handmade art special – the human connection, imperfections, and personal story behind each piece.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a multidisciplinary artist and photographer specializing in whimsical, nature-inspired artwork, handmade jewelry, and fairytale-inspired photography. I’m known for incorporating natural elements like butterfly wings, feathers, and seashells into my work.
I’m most proud of constantly evolving as an artist and creating pieces that feel personal, magical, and one-of-a-kind. What sets me apart is my hands-on, storytelling approach – I want everything I create to feel like it has a little piece of its own story.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My biggest supporter has always been my son. He was only 5 years old when he was proudly telling everyone about my photography, and now, at 14, he’s still my biggest cheerleader. Watching him believe in my work from the very beginning has meant more to me than he probably realizes.
