Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Ramirez.
Hi Nathan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started playing drums when I was three years old, and by the time I was thirteen I had made my first little singer/ songwriter acoustic album.
As I grew up, I taught myself guitar, drums, keys and songwriting all by ear, and I started creating music of my own while I was still young.
A big part of my journey came through the Christian arts. I spent years playing those instruments in churches all over the country, which introduced me to so many different people and experiences. Eventually, music became something I could use to connect with people in a much deeper way so I started playing for patients dealing with life threatening illnesses, working with artists and writers, and building relationships within the Nashville music community.
All of those experiences eventually led me to create what became VRTS.
I originally released music under the name ( virtues ), and over time that evolved into VRTS, pronounced “virtues.”
VRTS is really a reflection of everything I have experienced through music and life. I create storytelling lofi pop, blending my love for songwriting with the perspective I have gained along the way and my background as a multi instrumentalist.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There has been but that’s part of being happy.. A part of me isn’t where he thinks he wants to be so in turn that shows in my emotions and day to day but thus far, we have endured every trial and used it for good. Even if it took some hard work. I think that’s how you overcome things.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I feel like I’m known as the guy who “can do it all,” because not only can I do the instrumental stuff, but I’ve also transitioned into more of a creative role with a camera and editorial work in my day to day. Being a full time videographer and social media director, I’ve been able to take a seat and watch how a business in this industry operates and moves, and that, in turn, has given me a lot of opportunities in this city.
I tell my family, I’m a full time creative.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Athe end of the day, VRTS isn’t really about me trying to prove that I can do everything.
It’s about what I can give people.
I’ve spent my entire life surrounded by music, and I’ve experienced so many different sides of it. I’ve played for people simply trying to get through another day. Those experiences changed the way I look at music. I realized that a song doesn’t have to just sound good. It can make somebody feel seen. It can remind somebody that they’re not alone. It can make somebody stop for a second and appreciate where they are in life.
That’s what I want VRTS to be.
VRTS is storytelling lofi pop built around real life, real emotions, and the little moments that we sometimes overlook. I’m bringing everything I’ve learned as a songwriter, producer, multi instrumentalist, and creative.
And I think that’s what makes this chapter different for me.
Life is short, and none of us are promised tomorrow. That’s something I think about a lot. So if I’m going to spend my life making music, I want it to mean something. I want to leave people feeling a little lighter than they did before they found me.
