Check Out Nikki Muhilly’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Muhilly.

Nikki, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As far back as I can remember, I’ve always had a love for decorating. It was a hobby of mine and at any time, you could find me rearranging/decorating my childhood bedroom. That carried on to when I moved into my first apartment in college. I loved going and shopping for home decor and coming back to decorate my apartment. I attended Western Kentucky University where I received a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. I always said if Nursing didn’t work out, I’d major in interior design. It’s funny how life works out. Now, I feel a little like I’ve done both.

After graduating college in December 2010, I started working at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN and started dating my husband. We got married in October 2012 and had our first son the following year. After he was born, we decided that I would stay at home with our kids. We had our daughter in 2014 and another son in 2016. We bought our first home in 2017. I was so excited to decorate. I had Pinterest boards full of farmhouse decor that I wanted to replicate in my own home. After encouragement from my husband, I started the Farmhouse Decor Mama Instagram page in February 2019. My main reason for starting the page was to share how I was decorating our home and any shopping deals I found along the way. I also knew I’d be sharing my journey with motherhood being a stay at home mom. I wanted to have a sense of community with other moms that enjoyed home decorating. I can honestly say I’ve found that! My friends as I like to call them are so amazing and we lift each other up when we need it.

I’ve always had a love of writing. Last July during the pandemic, I decided to finally launch my lifestyle blog. I share things I’m loving, home decor, motherhood, and recipes. I’m enjoying writing and sharing things on a deeper level.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road. I think some of my struggles along the way were just self-doubt. I get in my own way a lot of the time. Telling myself things like, “Why would anyone care what you have to say?” Some days it can be hard to overcome the mental roadblock.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a lifestyle blogger/influencer. I started my Instagram page in February 2019. My goal in starting my page was to share my love of farmhouse decor and with moments of motherhood sprinkled in. I’ve grown my Instagram page to over 20,000 followers. I don’t like calling them that. I like calling them my friends. I feel like I’m known for farmhouse decor. I’m most proud of being featured in Annie and Oak’s column, How To Create Farmhouse Kitchen, from the Top 40 Interior Designers.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes, I have. I’ve learned that life is short and you can’t wait or put off things you want to do. Being home so much last year, it made me realize I shouldn’t put off starting my blog any longer.
