Check Out Nikolas Dunavant’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikolas Dunavant.

Nikolas, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Nikolas Dunavant and I am a 19-year-old photographer and business owner of, “The Selfie Studio” located in the small town of Manchester, TN. I am an entrepreneur and creative.

My passion is taking unique and artistic portraits, but I have also dappled in product and food photography. There’s not a lot to do in our town. Just a bunch of fast-food restaurants and antique shops.

About a year ago, I wanted to create something fun and entertaining for the young crowd in Manchester and I had thought of the idea of making a Selfie Studio as soon as the thought came up, I was instantly enthralled with the idea!

After a year of hard work, Nikolas Dunavant Photography presented “The Selfie Studio” which opened in December of 2021 with nine unique rooms/backgrounds. This selfie studio is designed for content creators and families alike. One of the coolest things about “The Selfie Studio” is it’s constantly changing for seasons, holidays, and special events.

I encourage if you’re ever between Nashville and Chattanooga to stop by “The Selfie Studio” and experience the fun for yourself!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. I knew that starting a business wasn’t going to be easy, but starting a business in a small town has been the struggle of a lifetime. I would say that the hardest thing about starting this business would be advertising to the right crowd.

I thought the physical building of my business would be the hardest part, but it has actually been after I have made my storefront… now I have to find my customers. You see, I didn’t start a business in a bustling city where people are flooding the streets. I am in a small town square with pawn shops and antique shops.

Not many young people flood my location, which is another struggle that I have faced. But you have to start somewhere and I only plan to expand my business even more in the future!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My passion and focus are photographing creative portraits. My best friend and I love to collaborate on ideas, coming up with eccentric and unique photoshoots.

I love to come up with artistic ways to light a certain photo. I enjoy putting together wacky outfits that stand out. My concepts for photoshoots often come from certain emotions that I am feeling.

One of the most interesting things about my photoshoots in I likes to challenge myself to come up with the most extraordinary ideas while only working with what I have available in my space. I am very innovative.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Probably would have to be entering photos into the local county fair.
