Today we’d like to introduce you to Paco Flores
Hi Paco, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am Paco Flores also known as “Love, Pac”, I am from Del Rio, Texas a small town that borders Mexico. Growing up I always had a big imagination. I always had a passion to create. I would pick up many hobbies as a kid: Magic tricks, build forts in the woods, build gadgets, Act, dance, make movies, draw, write poetry, etc. My first passion was movies I absolutely love them, Every time my parents would ask what movies were playing at the movie theater I would be able to tell them which were playing. I grew watching a lot of old films; like Charlie Chaplin, Even on Halloween I dressed up as Charlie Chaplin and Cantinflas. I loved the whole process of making a story come to life. So I would make my own little movies and get my cousins and myself included in them. I then started pursuing an acting career having to get checked out of class driving hours back and forth to auditions, but I loved it because I knew it was just one step closer to following my dreams. So I did acting for sometime, which was the first creative outlet I immersed myself in which led me to find other ways to create art. My house back home is right next to my grandparent’s house, where they have an old grand piano in the living room. I was always drawn to it, I would just sit down and fiddle around not knowing what I was doing; hitting notes that clashed together. So, I started teaching myself about music theory, and using the poems I would write and turn them into songs. Thats where my love for music began. As I continued to teach myself piano, I then went on to teach myself guitar. Progressively getting more immersed into the world of music. I began to notice it in everything and would take inspiration from something as simple as laying on the grass or as beautiful as looking at the stars. I then wanted to get into production so as most people started out, I started learning on Garageband on my mom’s laptop. As time went on I got more experience and upgraded my software. I then started experimenting with different sounds and started to blend genres I love. It was at this point I came up with the name “Love, Pac” you might ask whats the story behind the name, it came from a realization when I would write my songs that they were sort of like a letter to somebody, and as one signs off on a letter, like saying “sincerely” I sign off as “Love, Pac”. Long story short, I ended up in Nashville. I have grown a lot here as a person and as an artist. Producing more and performing shows around Nashville. When people ask me what kind of genre of music I make I explain to them that I have developed so much love and inspiration from different types of music growing up, and don’t plan to put myself in a box. I just want to continue creating art that I love and make people feel something.
Love, Pac
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say the biggest setback I had was when I was just starting out. Was believing in myself when I decided this is what I wanted to do as a career. Coming from a small town, big dreams can seem unrealistic. If I were to be asked “What is one word I dislike?” I would say with a passion is “settle” I never want to settle for anything in my life and I strive to keep that mentality. It may seem cliche but I truly believe with an attainable goal that I can pursue anything I put my mind to. I quickly realized that no one else was going to believe in me if I did not believe in myself first. Any setbacks I have faced in life I have used to my advantage to learn from them and that truly shaped me into the artist I am today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Artist is an umbrella term for what I do for work. I am a creator, entertainer, performer, songwriter, producer, and visionary. Being an artist includes doing a lot of different tasks to make the best outcome. I think what sets me apart is my mentality and background. Also the fact, that with my music and shows I want people to feel something, to make them move, laugh, and for that moment not have a worry in the world. Over the years I have learned to hone my craft. It has allowed me to create the best version of myself and music to put out into the world. My Mexican background is also prevalent in my music. Growing up with a close family with lots of tradition, I have learned how special a moment can be when you are with the people you love or doing something you love. That has translated over in the way I perform, I’m not trying to impress anyone, I am simply enjoying the moment while doing what I love to do and I think people can feel that, and that’s why it is so special.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Luckily I am fortunate enough to go to college at Belmont University. I have found that I am surrounded by so many talented musicians and people who want to work in the music industry that networking is as simple as talking to people in my classes and building a relationship with them. I have met all of my band members and my manager at Belmont by doing this. As far as mentors go, I have met some impressive industry professionals through gigs I’ve played and professors for some of my music courses. Everyone has been so willing to help and I am thankful to learn from them. Now that’s just music, I have learned a lot from my parents when it comes to life in general. My mom and dad have taught me lessons that have sticked with me and helped me on my journey today. My mom taught me about “The Four Agreements” which I recommend to everyone to use in their own journey. It opened my eyes to a different outlook on life.
