Check Out Phy’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phy.

Hi Phy , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up a nerdy girl in a small town who knew early on that I wanted to help people. My dad was (and still is til this day) a huge Justice League, Spider-Man, and X-Men fan. I pursued a career in social work which included working towards & receiving a masters degree. That journey was a catalyst for a lot of self discovery and I found that my love for film and fandoms only grew stronger. Attending anime and comic conventions deepened that passion and showed me how meaningful it is to share those spaces with like-minded people.

I’ve always been someone who thrives in community, whether that’s playing video games or catching a movie with friends — so it felt natural to start streaming on Twitch, mostly horror and cozy games. I’m also a frequent moviegoer, and I kept finding myself spending a lot of time on stream debriefing the latest film I had watched. I realized I wanted to create a dedicated space for that, somewhere people could come together to share reactions and thoughts on what they’d just watched. That evolved into the short-form content I make today, focused primarily on horror and superhero media.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been anything but smooth, however it has been worth it. I’ve learned so much about content creation and what works for me and my audience. Algorithms and interest change over time so I’m always still learning and experiencing.

Consistency has been a struggle and not just with the amount of posting. My job is demanding and it can be hard to find the time and energy to batch content to post throughout the week. But also consistency within my content was hard early on. For example finding my voice and consistently keeping it in line with my content took time and is still something I have to be intentional about

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a film and fandom content creator that reviews, reacts, and shares different media across platforms. I have a myriad of interests, but my content mainly focuses on horror and superhero media. That includes books, tv shows, movies, and video games.

I believe I’m mainly known for my horror reviews/analysis and Marvel theories + character breakdowns.

Lately my goal has been to blend my social work background into my content to provide a different perspective. I’ve been able to do that with a handful of videos now and I’m super proud of that. It feels like I’m layering more of myself in my content while providing more context and awareness around topics like grief and trauma—themes that are very present in horror but can be overlooked when talking about our favorite heroes

How do you think about luck?
Luck truly is about positioning yourself to receive that luck. While attending the anime and gaming convention Dream Con they announced a panel with an actress working with Marvel at the time. I dropped all plans to be at that panel and sat close to the front. Because of that I was easily visible and selected as one of the few fans that would be able to meet her. This ment the world to me and I was able to document that experience which I then posted to my platforms. It caught the eye of someone at Marvel and they sent me a mailer in honor of their new show. I have continued to do coverage around Marvel projects and received another gift to celebrate Wonder Man. These experiences really helped me focus my content. I had to reflect on what brings me the most joy and excitement and lean in because that resonates on screen.

Bad luck can come from not properly researching things. Once you start creating content different emails and messages come your way. People are getting creative and it can be hard to tell what is genuine.
