Check Out Raye’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raye.

Raye, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a singer-songwriter from Northern California.

I grew up loving music and singing. From a young age, I would write down lyrics and write melodies to go along with them. When I was looking at colleges, I decided to follow my passions and go to Berklee College of Music in Boston. There I studied songwriting and learned so much about writing and the music industry.

While in school, I visited Nashville and fell in love! Since living here, I have recorded two EPs and performed shows and writer rounds all around downtown.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Working in a town that is saturated with musicians can be tough! There is so much competition and roadblocks to being a successful artist.

When times are hard I try to channel that struggle into my music. Especially during times like the pandemic, when everything is shut down, I found that focusing on my craft and love for writing helped me push through.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Being a pop singer-songwriter in Nashville does make me feel unique.

There are so many talented writers and artists here having something a little different can help me stand out from the crowd. I am also extremely proud of my releases EPs, Bad Habits and Toxic Heart.

As an independent artist, it takes a lot of work to fundraise to make these works happen and I am so happy with the result from my production team, Invisible Hero, here in Nashville.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Nashville is full of life! I love that everywhere you go you can hear talented musicians playing.

I can’t say there is much I dislike about Nashville. It can be hard to start building connections in the music industry at first, but people are very welcoming and accepting!
