Check Out Rea Sylvester’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rea Sylvester. 

Hi Rea, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Marietta Sylvester, my grandmother, was the amazing talented true seamstress for the family and many more. Now I carry on her name by following in the same footsteps of also being a seamstress and Film/Tv Costume Designer. I began my passion of sewing at the age of 12 years old! I taught myself sewing. First, I started off making pillows which eventually grew into making skirts, shirts, A-line dresses & making other accessories. I continued throughout the years of middle & high school, teaching and developing my skill sets with sewing & design. In 2014, I attended The Tennessee State University where I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Art / Fashion Design. While I was a student on campus I began my business, Recreations Designs in August 2016. I started to offer alteration services throughout campus for students and from word spreading my business grew very quickly & fast! Since, my business has grown and expanded to custom special occasion dresses for women, wedding gown alterations, and tailoring men’s suits as well as costume design for film & personal celebrations. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Growing and discovering the mission of my business has always been the most challenging. From having a business to start, with such a strong support base from my peers to moving into the city, balancing a full-time job, rebuild my business also while finding who I am. Every single day was hard! I can definitely say through it all I am happy I continued moving forward. 

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a full-time seamstress & Designer. My business provides any alterations, custom designing services, & pattern making services. I specialize in special occasion alterations attire: wedding gowns, bridesmaids dress, prom, tux’s & suits. I also specialize in custom designing for all women to design the dress she has always dreamed of no matter what the event 

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was always a social butterfly. I loved playing my sports: softball & soccer, where I can have an amazing outlet to channel my hyper energy. I am the youngest of 2 brothers, so I’ve definitely always had a big personality and big opinion to go along with it. 

My parents are the reason where I am today. My dad bought my first sewing machine for Christmas when I was 12 which started it all. My mom and Dad definitely have prayed, encouraged me in every way possible in this journey.
