Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Richey.
Hi Rob, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Pro Resume began more than 30 years ago as a small Memphis-based resume writing service dedicated to helping local job seekers stand out. As demand grew and technology reshaped hiring, we expanded our capabilities, modernized our processes, and became one of the first resume firms in the country to design content specifically for digital screening and ATS systems.
Our first regional expansion took us to Nashville and Little Rock, where Pro Resume quickly became one of the most trusted career service brands in both markets. Those two cities established the foundation of our national strategy—and they continue to be among our strongest markets today.
From there, Pro Resume extended into multiple states, built an executive-level writing team, and became nationally recognized by Google and The Wall Street Journal as America’s #1 resume service.
What began as a one-person Memphis business is now a nationwide career brand operating in 25+ markets, serving job seekers across every industry—including transitioning military, executives, corporate professionals, and federal personnel.
Despite our growth, our mission has never changed:
deliver powerful resumes that get real results—no templates, no shortcuts, just proven outcomes.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
How Hiring Changed—and How Pro Resume Led the Way
Twenty years ago, job searching looked very different. People walked into companies with printed resumes, shook a hand, and spoke directly to a hiring manager. But as technology advanced, applications moved online, competition exploded nationwide, and resume screening became automated.
Suddenly, getting noticed wasn’t about handing someone a piece of paper—it became about passing digital filters, parsing systems, and keyword algorithms long before a human ever saw your qualifications.
While most resume services stayed focused on old-style formatting, Pro Resume recognized early that hiring was shifting online and pioneered one of the nation’s first digital e-resume formats designed specifically for online submission and applicant tracking systems.
We began researching hiring algorithms, testing resume structures, measuring interview conversions, and constantly adjusting our approach based on real hiring outcomes—not outdated templates.
Today, job searching continues to evolve faster than ever—AI screening, skills-based hiring, automated tracking, and new digital recruiting channels. And while most job seekers are still trying to figure out what works, Pro Resume has spent years staying ahead of hiring trends, ATS evolution, and recruiter preferences.
That’s why our clients don’t just get “a resume”—they get a document built for the way hiring works right now and optimized for what actually gets interviews in today’s market.
Because in modern hiring, the resume that gets seen is the resume that wins.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
You don’t build a resume for the person who owns it—you build it for the person who’s reading it. What a candidate thinks is important and what actually motivates a hiring manager to take action are often two very different things.
That’s why staying informed about what employers are prioritizing right now is critical. Recruiters and hiring managers evaluate talent differently across more than 40 industries, and each one has unique expectations, language, and decision-making triggers.
Pro Resume stays on top of those trends—so every resume speaks directly to what hiring managers want, not what job seekers hope they see.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Too many to list.
