Check Out Sarah Price’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Price.

Hi Sarah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was a kindergarten teacher turned photographer. My love of children and families has carried over from my teaching into my work today. I’m passionate about capturing important memories in a family’s life—everything from engagements and milestones for couples, maternity, and newborn photoshoots, to seniors and families. I gravitate towards shoots that incorporate natural lighting and the outdoors.

I have had a camera in my hand for as long as I can remember! My parents got me my first Canon Rebel film camera in high school. I used it to study abroad in Europe for three months my sophomore year in college and used over 30 rolls of film. When my oldest daughter was born in 2007, I wanted to take my own photos of her. I got my first Canon Rebel DSLR and I was hooked. After my middle daughter was born in 2010, I knew I needed to take the plunge! I found a photographer willing to do a mentor program, watched a lot of YouTube videos, read a lot of books and took a lot of photos! Here I am 12 years later running my own photography business.

My three girls and two goldendoodles are my inspiration and models for many of my photoshoots. I wouldn’t say that they are always willing to cooperate and often times I am dripping sweat by the time we are done but one day they will thank me! I hope they will look back and remember all the fun we had making these memories together.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I love being a photographer! To me, the hardest part of it is picking the photos I want to share on social media and on my website. I feel connected to all of them. Thankfully, my husband doesn’t always share that same connection and helps me pick the best ones when I can’t decide.

Scheduling especially in the fall can be crazy! I have had many falls where I was so ragged from so many sessions and missed out on family time. I have found that it is easier to schedule fall mini sessions on dates/times that my girls don’t have activities so I don’t miss out but am also still serving my clients. Fall sessions are definitely my favorite! I am so thankful for my faithful clients that return every year and are willing to work around my kids’ crazy schedules.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
When the world was slowly shutting down due to covid19 in April 2020, we did our first of many front yard birthday celebrations. One of my favorite personal sessions so far was a photo I took of my girls and their aunt and uncle. My oldest made the chalkboard sign that said “Our Heroes. Aunt Annie and Uncle John. We love you!” We didn’t let my sister or brother-in-law see it. I posted it on social media the next day for my sister’s birthday. A company that was looking for photos for Mass Mutual found it and loved it. It eventually ended up on a Mass Mutual TV commercial. I love that it’s my girls celebrating the heroic efforts of their aunt and uncle. I am most proud of that photo! The photo and video are on my website.

I also have a project that is near and dear to my heart. I had a very special client, Tatum, pass away at 6 months old. At two months she was diagnosed with SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy). Tatum’s family’s faith and love are amazing. They are true inspirations. My project “Tatum’s Tales” features the stories of other children whom have rare genetic diseases, syndromes, or other special kids on my blog. The families of these precious children get a free mini photo session in exchange for sharing their story! It’s definitely one my favorite part of photography. These sessions have been on hold since covid but I’m really hoping to start up again soon.

I’m getting ready to launch another fun project: Girl Hero. This will feature everyday girls doing what they love. Since I’m a mom of three girls I want my girl to always know that girls can do anything they put their mind too. Girl Power!!

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I am based in Middle Tennessee but work out of Spring Hill, TN. I serve the entire state, especially the Nashville, Brentwood, and Franklin areas. I occasionally do sessions when I’m visiting my home town Berlin, PA.

I am a Christian, wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend. I love my family, football (the Pittsburgh Steelers), soccer (USWNT), reading, crafts, and DIY projects. My friends and family call me “mommarazzi” because I am taking pictures all of the time. My husband and I have three daughters and two GoldenDoodles. I am thankful for a career where I can spend time with them and volunteer in their classrooms at school. I am encouraged and critiqued by my best friend, my husband!

I take a lot of photos of our extended family. I have been able to capture many milestone moments for our nieces and nephews and am so thankful for that. The photos I am sharing are of my girls and goldendoodles and our sisters/sister-in-law, brother-in-laws, and my sweet nieces and nephews. They are some of my favorite photos and showcase my style and type of sessions.

I love your work and all the pictures you post. I worked with Sarah when she was a kindergarten teacher. She is the real deal. She has such a bubbly personality and always wants to do her best.
