Check Out Scooter Spicer’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scooter Spicer.

Hi Scooter, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I grew up in Alabama in a family of musicians and started playing in terrible cover bands with my friends in Junior High. My dad got us all kinds of gigs at county fairs, city parades, and restaurants. At university, we started writing more and wanting to play more shows at proper venues.

I ended up being the details guy – planning rehearsals, figuring out the tech gear we needed, and learning how to book shows and get friends there. After a few years of weekend warrior tours, I met a dude who had cheaper rent in Nashville than in my little college town so I moved up for the summer. I went to shows every night of the week and started to meet all kinds of players/artists.

Ended up booking tours for indie artists & sliding into TM roles as well as drumming. Thankfully, I’ve let the real experts do the booking now, but I’m currently still hustling in the TM & drumming world. Newest hustle = volleyball… If anybody’s tryna play hit me up.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I think some of the bigger challenges for me have been more personal than situational.

Learning how to maintain relationships while on the road, staying physically and emotionally healthy, budgeting when the money is good and when it’s not.

I don’t know if I’ve really experienced “obstacles” per se, things blocking my path. But every season tends to have a different challenge for me. That’s the fun of life eh?

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I mostly work as a drummer & tour manager. I think I’m honestly known for just being reliable and a good hang.

On the road, I love being efficient with schedules so we can maximize the time to be creative or to just enjoy tossing a ball around in the sunshine. At home, I love recording some drums/perc for folks and getting some weird sounds.

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
I think living balanced life matters to me most right now. For me, that looks like getting consistent family and friend time. Staying physically healthy.

Being a part of music that I care about, with people that I feel connected to. And after all that, having some time to explore other countries in between tours.
