Today we’d like to introduce you to Sebastian Cortes.
Hi Sebastian, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up I was introduced to electronic music by my cousin Edgar. He passed away March 2016 and left me and his younger brother with his legacy as a Dj in Atlanta and the love for Electronic music. I learned to Dj watching him at our family parties and shortly fell in love with the scene in Murfreesboro. Around this time I began to start Dj under the name Peso and started to pursue music. Shortly after me and my good friend Ian began a duo called DUDZ N SUDZ. We quickly gained traction and I started to begin to produce music. Shortly after we split and I began the SUDZ project. I began starting to play shows at Tempt in Murfreesboro and across the Nashville area while beginning to teach myself how to produce on Ableton.
Fast forward 2019 I played my first big show at The Cowan in Nashville for support with Bear Grillz. The pandemic hit and I began to re-brand the Sudz logo. I had my first label release in 2019 for a remix competition for Recall Records. Later getting another release on their sub label Rekondite records for a collab with GDLK. Following that release I would release another collab with Mizter Bonezz on Shlumped Records. Shortly after, I would go on to release 3 more remixes. Then the pandemic hit and I stopped music.
I would later comeback after the pandemic with more drive to begin playing shows. Playing local events I began to gain traction and soon would lead me to play another support slot for Bear Grillz in 2021. Fast forwarded to 2023 I was offered to open for Kayzo on his Unleashed tour at Sky deck. Ending the year with my birthday show for support for Alleycvt, and NYE with Dirt Monkey.
I would continue to go on into 2024 playing alongside of HE$H, Barely Alive, NGHTMRE, Marauda, and Vampa. I had the opportunity to open the main stage for Breakaway Music Festival in Nashville just after my label release with Shattered Records song called Drop In It. Meanwhile I had the pleasure to begin a music collective called The Guild with my good friends FEAR, JKSTR, & SIDIOUSVIBES.
Moving into 2025 I have built a solid foundation and new sound for the SUDZ project. Kicking the year off with support for Dogma and making my debut in Atlanta for support with Hi IM Ghost. Saving up through 2023 I was able to buy a new laptop and begin to really focus on producing. As of 2025 I have 8 unreleased songs and 2 coming out shortly one being a song called “ Soapbox Sleuth”.
2025 I have found my sound and been focused on building a catalog that speaks the new SUDZ sound.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing up in the scene I went through lots of up and downs. I was young and felt the need to prove my worth which lead me to a big battle with mental health and the party life. I learned a lot of myself through the years and created a self worth with myself and the SUDZ project. With many times wanting to quit, I always knew music was my passion and helped me through my lowest of times. I pursued the help and guidance for my mental health and the SUDZ project. I have a solid team to support me and happily to say I have been in the best mental state because of the help of music and my closest friends.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
When I began to produce, I was in awe of the capabilities that sound design brought to EDM. I focused my time on learning how to create my own sounds and quickly picked up Serum. I fell in love with sound design and always told myself I would want to learn to make anything that I would hear in the outside world or in my favorite EDM songs.
Making all types of genres in EDM, I always was drawn to dubstep and the complexity of it. Fast forward to now I have created my own sound that mixes my love for dubstep basses and trap style beats. My goal has always been to make something that is unique and peaks through other styles. A sound that is different and new, but also simple and when heard, instinctively the SUDZ sound.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking in today’s age is key. Placing yourself in the right positions and in front of the right people is something I’ve come to learn from. In building a brand, find something that speaks to you and reflects you. Focus on making music and finding your sound. Work each day creating and working the creative muscle. Many artist that I have met through the years always gave me advice and one that always came across was finding your sound. I truly believe in the 10,000 hours mindset, where once you have spent 10,000 hours working towards something or learning something you will begin to become an expert to put it into simple terms.
Find like minded people to surround yourself with that have the same goals and truly support you as well as you supporting them. Building a team and support system has helped me tremendously in my musical journey.
