Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Kay and Kayla Bulmer.
Hi Stacey and Kayla, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello! Our names are Stacey and Kayla and we are SISTERS!
Stacey is a Singer/Rapper, Drag Queen Vocal Coach/Song Writer/ and Motivational Speaker.
Kayla has a full-time job and is Stacey’s backup singer! Kayla became an unexpected mother which ended up being the best thing ever, and now has two of the most AMAZING boys who are 8 and 6.
We were finalists on America’s Got Talent, and now have a podcast called “I Have To Call My Sister”. Our family and friends always made fun of us for how often we talked to one another every night so we thought, why not start a podcast?
Our comedic podcast is about body positivity, anxiety, parenting, and being a plus-sized recording artist in the pop music industry (which can be very challenging.) We have been fortunate enough to have some pretty amazing guests on our show like Kaitlyn Bristowe (Winner of “Dancing With The Stars” and star/ host of the “Bachelorette”), Priyanka (Winner of “Canada’s Drag Race”), Chloe Veitch (Star of “Too Hot To Handle” and “The Circle) Tychon Carter (Winner of “Big Brother Canada”), to name a few.
Starting this podcast has been one of the most amazing and rewarding things we’ve ever done. We are best friends just living our dream together!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Since Stacey has been in the music industry for a while, we had one up on most people starting out with a podcast. We had recording equipment, a studio, and some knowledge.
What we have found extremely challenging is how much time has to go into making a successful podcast. It is basically a full-time job in itself, but we also have to continue with our normal careers outside of that. There have been times where we’ve thought, is it worth it? And then we’ll receive an amazing message from a fan and it makes everything SO worth it. We have been working extremely hard, and trying to learn new things every single day!
We are doing the most amount we can to keep growing our success, and we’ve been getting such amazing feedback! It has been SO fun!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Stacey Kay- Motivation Speaker, Singer Song Writer, Drag Queen Vocal Coach, and Songwriter.
I am a plus-size woman in the music industry which can be very challenging. I have dealt with comments my whole life, but I have learned to love myself. Life can be SO much more fun once you stop worrying about what other people think of you and you get to live your truth!
I am Juno Award Winner, America’s Got Talent Finalist, and I have gotten to perform with some pretty amazing people!
Kayla Bulmer- Office Coordinator at an Elementary school. backup singer, and mom of two young boys.
When I found out I was pregnant with my first child Munro, my world was turned upside down. It was not planned and I had been with my partner for a very short amount of time. We now have Munro and his little brother Leo, and we are an extremely happy, busy, and crazy family! Munro was the best thing to ever happen to me.
Being a mom is so amazing, but also the most challenging thing I’ve ever done in my life.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
We get comment’s every single day telling us how much they love our honesty and openness. We have always talked about our feelings and have always been very transparent and I think that helps a lot of people feel we are very relatable. We think it’s super important to be yourself, and if that means embarrassing yourself while you’re at it, then go for it! Say positive, lift each other up, and love yourself!!
