Check Out Sugar Hysteria’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sugar Hysteria.

Hi Sugar Hysteria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We formed in October, 2018 shortly after graduating from high school together – Gwyneth (lead vocals/rhythm guitar) and Chris Ellis (lead guitar/background vocals). Our vision was to create up-beat/dynamic rock songs with catchy melodies and memorable hooks. We agreed that we wanted to be recognized for our musical abilities and that we were going to make it happen with this band. Bassist Jon Grimm joined in July, 2020 followed by drummer Logan Scheivert in December, 2023. This rhythm section helped pave the way for our further solidified sound – alternative rock containing elements of punk and classic rock. We have performed throughout the surrounding states over the years, sharing the stage with numerous national acts. In March, 2024, we released our debut full length album ‘Break Up or Break Down’ and just a year later, were nominated for the 2025 CPMA’s best alternative rock band.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Running a band can certainly be challenging as it is also a business. We are completely self managed and are not currently signed to a label which means we handle all of the booking, promoting, traveling, merchandise, etc. on our own while maintaining our day jobs. We do it because through the thick and thin, at the end of the day, playing music is our passion and we will happily take everything that it entails.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are known for putting on energetic shows that will have you engaged from start to finish. We are proud to say that we simply plug in and play. No backing tracks. What you hear is happening right in front of you while still maintaining our modern alternative rock sound.

What matters most to you? Why?
Pushing our original music is the most important thing to us. Our songwriting is not only a creative outlet for us, it’s also a form of self expression that others can relate to. Watching fans be moved and sing along to our songs is the reason why we do it.
