Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor-Rae.
Hi Taylor-Rae, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up singing with my Dad in Alberta, Canada which is where I found my love for Country music. I used to put on the ladies of the ’90s and try to teach myself to sing the songs that they could. It was always about trying to do as much as I could with my voice. Eventually, it got to the point where I needed to decide whether or not I was going to pursue music as a career, which led me to move to Vancouver, BC for university.
I ended up taking a program focused on the business side of the music industry. I strongly believe to be successful in something, you have to be as knowledgeable as possible in it. It was a great stepping stone to then starting a band, joining a soul choir and ending up working with some incredible people in the industry.
This year has definitely been one of my career highlights, even with all of the struggles in regards to the pandemic, because I have gotten to work on and release some of the best music I have made to date.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I think anyone in this industry would say that it is a bit of a rollercoaster! There have definitely been times where I have to remind myself that everyone in this industry has a different path and what works for one person may not work for you. I think one of the biggest struggles is finding your own lane and figuring out who you are, then your direction tends to fall into place.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Canadian Country artist and I am most proud of how I have developed as an artist over the past few years.
My vocals are something I have focused on since I was young, and I would like to think that is one of the things I am known for. Growing up, I was constantly singing Country Music and then having the opportunity to join a soul choir when I moved to Vancouver opened up doors for me as a vocalist. It pushed me to the limits of my voice and really let me understand what I could do with it.
The choir was such an imperative part of my development as an artist and to get to mix country music with all that I’ve learned in choir is something I’m really excited to have the opportunity to do.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love how vibrant the city is! It’s a city of artists and I think it’s really cool to see everyone doing what they can to be successful in something they love.
