Today we’d like to introduce you to The Scarecrows.
Hi Cory, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I guess the story starts about two years ago. I had just moved to Bethpage. Unfortunately, COVID-19 had all of the venues in Nashville shut down. We were all doing everything we could to keep some kind of normalcy going. Our guitar player Gabe Love and I were finally able to book an acoustic show after a while without playing for people.
Little did we know the Co-Founder of The Scarecrows, Willy Scruggs was also booked at the same place on the patio. So that’s where we met. All three of us were enthralled with what each other did. At the end of the day, we are music fans! So that night Willy Scruggs and I sat at that bar and wrote our first song together. Fast forward a few months down the line. Willy, Gabe, and I were looking for the missing pieces.
That’s when we found out Rocky Covington (drums) and I were neighbors. You can imagine where my mind went. This is a guy who has played The Grand Ole Opry. He spent years on the road with his brother Bucky Covington. We had to get him! We spent the next six months either playing/writing at our rehearsal space, or playing shows somewhere. That’s when the story gets cooler.
We started to notice people actually liked what we were doing! We knew we had to get this catalog of songs to the studio. So I called Harry Smith. Outside of being a super producer, he is also Martina Mcbride’s guitar player. He got us out to Ed Smoaks (Eric Church guitar) studio, Southern Accents Studio.
We just released our first song from that session (Anne Marie).
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
What fun would it be without some struggle? Between all of the time spent practicing/ playing shows Willy and I had to figure out how to delegate time to songwriting.
In case I haven’t made this clear yet, Willy and I pretty much haven’t been able to get away from each other for the last two years. We have built a strong partnership/friendship.
Because of that foundation, the “struggles” are few and far between.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I guess I would have to say our songs. Willy and I wrote these things for every possible listener. We believe in every word in every one of our songs. I think that energy transfers to our live show.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
It’s all about social media! We are available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Hell, I think Willy still has a MySpace.
