Today we’d like to introduce you to The Strangers.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The band started in early 2019 when Rylan (guitar), Lucas (vocals) Kadin (bass) were in high school. We needed a drummer, and our friend’s brother was one of the only people we knew who played well enough to help start this band and the writing process (Noah Loper). We played local shows, our original songs, and some classic rock n roll covers. We built up our material for a couple of years, then signed with Wally opus records (Wes Luttrell) in 2020, a family friend of Rylan’s. We invited him to our crammed Grimey practice space, and from there, he was open to developing the band for the next year or so. We planned to record the album in Lousiville at downtown recordings because covid things got pushed back. Rylan and Noah moved in together, and then, in late 2020, preliminary experimental demos were recorded in the empty house they lived in. As time passed and songs were finalized, Noah died unexpectedly from an accidental overdose. The band came to a halt and took time to process; we all wanted to put out what we had been creating for so long and have Noah on the record, so we had to go with the demos. We started recording overdubs and editing in Wally’s opus studio a few months later. In Evansville, Indiana.
Meanwhile, Rylan had met a drummer at guitar center (Teelin Atteberry), and they had agreed to jam one night, and from then, he was a member of the strangers. That experiment (the album in progress) went on for a year, and the album was finally released in March of 2022. Shortly After the album was released, we had a sold-out album release show at the Astra Theatre. That show has kicked off a spring/summer tour of the Midwest. The strangers have now branched out to cities like Nashville, Cincinnati, Evansville, and Indianapolis.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced?
It has been a smooth road at times, and at others, not so much. With covid 19 canceling a run of shows and recording, and the loss of our brother and drummer (Noah Loper)
And the usual bickering of bandmates.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Since forming, we have released our debut album and sold out our album release show at the Astra Theatre in Jasper, Indiana. We make new rock n roll music for our generation. We are known for the folky rock n roll psychedelic vibe that our music creates—spreading it with live music and social media platforms. With influences coming from many places, it gives our music a unique flavor. We get a bit out there when it comes to life experiences; we like to jam out and improvise based on the feeling at that moment.
