Check Out Tim Hayes’ Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Hayes.

Tim, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started in my grandmother’s kitchen. Every Thanksgiving, I would ask my mother to take me to her home the day before Thanksgiving, so I could be in the kitchen to help her cook. The most exciting part was watching her bake without measuring anything and the cake or pie coming out perfectly! From there, I began just baking small things and did not have a passion; I just did it as a hobby. I wanted to be a trauma surgeon, so I applied to nurse school.

While in anatomy class, God told me to start baking cakes.

I asked Him for a sign, and when I walked out of class, there was a big poster on the wall that said, “If you would like to start decorating cakes, come here.” Talk about my mind blown! Lol. So from there, I took action and told my boss, who made a call to a local bakery to see if I could start an internship there, which led to me being hired full-time.

Then led to a year and a half school trip to Orlando. Then, it led to Hollywood, TV shows, and now a successful modern bakery.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I must say it has been smooth. Before starting this business, I was a teacher a Haywood High School for three years, and after Covid, I could not do it anymore, so I decided to open up shop.

The transition was smooth only because I prayed and followed the direction of God. Had I tried to do it on my own I would probably look like Don King daily. Lol.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a pastry chef trained in French pastry arts specializing in fantastic birthday and elaborate wedding cakes. I am known for my strawberry cake. Being from a small town with the biggest strawberry festival, why would I have an award-winning strawberry cake? I am most proud of every accomplishment I have made thus far in my career.

Opening my bakery was the biggest dream come true, and I still, to this day, cannot believe I have it. The biggest thing that sets me apart is my customer service and passion for what I do. I am known for the experience that each customer (aka sweet family member) has when they walk through the bakery doors.

What makes you happy?
I just found out what true happiness is. In my 30 years of living, I can say that I am finally happy genuinely. Having not one care in the world makes me happy. The absolute best feeling ever. My life is so peaceful.
