Check Out Timmy Dunn’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Timmy Dunn.

Hi Timmy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m from Henderson, KY. A small river town with only about 60k people in the whole county. Me and my brothers had an R&B group and record deal when we were 15. Our mother thought it all came too soon, so she refused to let us continue. Once I was older and married, it was my father in law and brother-in-law who got me doing some acoustic country songs. The 1st country song I ever played was “angels like her” by Trent Tomlinson. We had a great response and soon started talking about starting a band. That took almost two years of trying to find the right group. Once we had a few that care, we started to look for shows.

We played almost two years of shows that didn’t pay at all or paid less than what it cost us to be there. One the 5th year rolled around. Things started looking up. We went from New York to California to Florida. Year seven, we booked our 1st Canadian tour scheduled to start October 2020 in Vancouver. Of course, COVID 19 hit and all was canceled. 2021 is my 8th year in music, and we hope things get back to normal. We’ve been casted for two reality shows, and I signed my 1st publishing deal with the C2R music group from Houston, Texas. We are currently booking shows but really focused on recording more!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a mixed country singer is definitely different, but I wouldn’t say it’s harder. Navigating the corporate world is frustrating, but I honestly don’t pay it all any attention anymore. I don’t listen to country radio or any radio, really. I just do what I know and love. Outside of that, I guess having kids and being married is trying at times because the music and social media require so so so much of your time it’s ridiculous. I try and balance music, family and my business as best I can.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create music that strikes me right then. So it can be traditional country or country-pop or maybe even a touch of country rap. Lol. It all depends. I’m not gonna claim to be better than anyone. I will say that what sets me apart is me NOT willing to mold for anyone’s liking. I don’t politic well at all! Haha! What I mean is I will not chase or be friends with anyone simply for music gain if that makes sense. So many people out there being the best politician they can be just to make certain industry figures like them. Not me. We either click or we don’t. I see you or I don’t. I’ll never put myself in place just because someone “big” is there.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
COVID has taught me not to trust what everyone says to trust.
