Check Out Titans Idiot’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Titans Idiot.

Hi T.I., can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a huge sports fan. Even since I was a kid, they’ve always been an important part of my life. Whether it was playing, watching, discussing, or debating, they always served as an outlet for me. But deep down what I always found fascinating about sports was the way that they could convince millions of people across the world to put their differences aside and unify to rally around a common good, even if it was only for a few hours a week.

To me, sports bring a sense of inclusion and comradery that’s hard to find amongst most groups, hobbies, and special interests. Where else can you find folks of every race, color, creed, gender, and sexual orientation huddled around the television at your favorite bar, cheering on the local team as they embark on another playoff run? There’s something magical to the mantra of sports that’s hard to put into words, but true sports fans know the feeling I’m describing all too well. It’s one of if not the only thing that can truly bring us all together.

But as for the Titans Idiot Nation, and how it came to fruition, that’s another beautiful example of how sports always unite people. Let me preface this by saying I thoroughly enjoy comedy. The only thing I think I’ve ever loved more than sports was making people laugh. To me, there’s nothing more rewarding than putting a smile on someone’s face. So, when I saw an opportunity on social media to create an outlet for fans to have a little fun, by interweaving pop culture and sports in a comedic yet honest but highly informative fashion, I knew it was what I wanted to do.

A few years ago, after the Titans lost their opening day game to the Miami Dolphins, in one of the weirdest and longest games in NFL history (due to storms and weather delays I might add), I was listening to the local sports radio and folks were calling in droves, devastated and defeated as if we had just lost in overtime at the Super Bowl.. Every call was practically the same… “This is T-Roy from Bucksnort, first-time caller, long time listener… Look, I just want to say that I think this team is dumb and they just suck” After hearing about 25 calls in a row of what I swear was T-Roy calling back with a different name, I turned my camera on and starting shooting reenactments of their calls, all while trying to keep a straight face.

I threw a compilation video of my reenactments on my social media really just for fun, labeled it “Titans Fans Calling Into The Radio Be Like” and then forgot about it for a few hours. Later that evening, I picked up my phone to see that it had actually been shared an abnormal amount of times and had already garnered a couple thousand views. Of course, that’s when the light bulb went off in my head and as most stories go, the rest is history.

The caller videos quickly morphed into recap videos which over time became weekly preview videos under the online persona as the “Titans Idiot.” Since then, I’ve turned it into a full-fledged sports entity under the name “Titans Idiot Nation”, while still keeping true to what got us to this point today. Sports, comedy, and being a man of the people are the building blocks of who I am and what we do. We took a few turns along the way, starting out with barely a baker’s dozen of fans, but here we are today with five full seasons of episodes under my belt and nearing almost 8,000 loyal members to whom I’m beyond grateful. It’s been one crazy ride and from the looks of things, we’re just getting started!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? (laughing to myself a little) Look…when you put yourself out there, especially on social media, you already know it’s not always going all puppies and rainbows. It’s impossible to make everyone like you and most of them will hate you, at first that is. You’re not going to build a following overnight and if that’s your goal, you’re going to have a really bad time. Mitch Hedberg, one of my all-time favorite comedians once said… “You can’t please everyone in life and last night everyone came to my show.” I always thought that not only was that a brilliant joke, but also one of the most honest takes you could ever have as an entertainer no matter your craft.

When I started first making videos, I had no idea what I was doing, who I was, and really what I even wanted to say, but I just knew that I had keep up the consistency or no one would take it seriously due to how ridiculous it actually was. When I go back and watch those original videos, I can’t help but laugh because the quality is soooooo bad. But I’m still proud because I put my time into them and they’re still funny as hell to me. As time progressed, my video editing skills improved and my delivery became more fluent and natural. I found my sweet spot in balancing informative content along with the comedic approach fueled by memes and pop culture and began to build a following that I never envisioned.

Let’s be real, no one puts themselves out in the public eye and expects things to be easy. Trust me, it wasn’t for me at first either..not even a little. It took me a good three years to really find my groove while building the Titans Idiot Nation brand. My advice to anyone looking to take the leap and put yourself out there, just block out the noise and ignore the distractions. Be bold. Be brave. You just have to stay driven, focused, and humble no matter if folks in the comment section are telling you how funny you are or trolls are recommending creative ways for you to kill yourself.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Here at the Titans Idiot Nation, we specialize in delivering high-quality, informative sports content but with a comedic approach. We communicate and engage in a way that’s attractive, but offers a sense of inclusion and unity. At the Titans Idiot Nation, it isn’t all about me and my videos. It’s about providing an outlet for fans to let loose, have some fun and enjoy sports content from a different perspective than most of what’s readily available. I can honestly say that there aren’t too many people out there doing things the way I do and I naturally take pride in that. We value our member’s opinions just as much as the next, which to me is a lost art in the world of Social Media. I feel that’s what sets us apart from others. As I always tell the members of the Titans Idiot Nation, “Without U, There Is No US”

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is at the end of the day, I’m proud of what I’ve put out there and what we’ve accomplished within the boundaries of the Titans Idiot Nation. Over this past season, I’ve watched the group grow from 3000 to almost 8000, all organically without the help of paid advertising or promotions. It’s been fun! But it also has been immensely challenging, beyond rewarding but best of all… humbling as it’s just me pulling the strings.

Making people feel like they are a part of the story is what’s always been important to me and I think that is what is most attractive to folks who stumble across the page. The honesty, passion, and genuine love for the Titans and sports, in general, is on display daily and that’s what keeps people coming back for more. I’ve had many people tell me that they can’t imagine watching the season without getting my updates and coverage and I can’t tell you how thankful I am to know that I’m making a difference in someone’s life, no matter how big or small my contributions may seem.
