Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Logan.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Beau and I met on a job in East Nashville in 2017. We had both been referred to the same client through a local paint retailer and, in a funny way, we both essentially got the job. We ended up working side by side on a historic renovation for about six months, and the project ultimately received a historic preservation award. From there, working together just happened naturally.
In 2020, we started noticing the trend of painted brick really taking off around Nashville. We created a company called Brick Painters to meet that demand, but also to educate homeowners about the importance of using the right products on masonry—and, just as importantly, what *not* to put on brick.
Then COVID hit. We were fortunate enough to land the Eastside Bowl project in Madison, which became a major turning point for us. We spent about a year working on that project, and during that time the scope of our business really began to expand.
As we grew, Brick Painters no longer represented everything we were becoming, so we changed the name to Good Spirit Paint and Create. We built out our painting operation, added crews and project management, and continued exploring more specialized finishes.
Interestingly, it was the lime-based products we were using to properly finish brick that ultimately led Beau and me into the work we’re most passionate about today: lime plaster, limewash, Roman clay, microcement, and a growing range of specialty finishes.
In a lot of ways, Good Spirit has become the finishing company we always wanted to create. We can walk into a home and paint a simple room beautifully, or completely transform a space with a hand-applied lime plaster, roman clay, or microcement feature. That range—combining traditional painting with old-world materials and modern finishes—is really what Good Spirit is all about.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, like any growing company, one of our biggest challenges is managing personnel and scheduling while maintaining the high standards we’ve set for our work. Growth is important to us, but never at the expense of quality.
We also place a huge value on kindness. In our industry, we’re often some of the last people on a job before a homeowner gets their space back, and we take that responsibility seriously. We want to leave behind more than just a beautiful finish. We try to bring professionalism, respect, and positive energy to every project.
That philosophy is actually a big part of where the name Good Spirit comes from. We believe you can hold extremely high standards for your craft while still being good people to work with. We want our clients, contractors, designers, and crews to feel that from us.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I think what sets us apart is that we’ve never really looked at ourselves as just a painting company. Painting is where we started, but over the years we’ve really leaned into the creative side of what we do. Limewash, plaster, Roman clay, microcement, sculpted fireplaces—we love taking something ordinary and giving it character.
We’re craftsmen, but we’re also artists, and I think that comes through in the work. We care about the little imperfections, the movement and texture, and making a space feel like it belongs there instead of looking mass-produced.
At the end of the day, we’re called Good Spirit Paint & Create for a reason. The “create” part has always been just as important to us as the paint.
