We’re looking forward to introducing you to Cian Pedersen . Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Cian , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
If I’m not in the writing room or playing a show you can find me with my dog fishing. She catches more than I do though I’m just there for the vibes. So I would say being out on the water is really what’s bringing me joy right now.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Yeah! My names Cian Pedersen. I’m a touring and recording artist/songwriter living in Nashville. I came up here from Katy, Texas in 2016 so I’m almost at the 10 year mark “living the dream” haha. For the last roughly 3 years since I released my debut single “Rest of Texas” I was on the road 2-3 weekends a month mostly playing college bars mid-west and south-east regions. After hitting a bucket list of playing in Vegas this past December though I decided to take a break from the road and stay local for a bit and just write more music.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Ooooh. See 8 year old me would say when I got these Spider-Man gloves that shot out that like silly string or whatever yall call it. I was running rampant with those. If ya ask me now I’d say when someone told me a song I wrote affected them when they heard it or made them feel something. …I’m gonna stick with the Spider-Man gloves though those were something special.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes actually in 2022. I had put out music before when I first moved up here and one of my songs took like 5 years to reach 1,000 plays. I was kind of getting burnt. I had graduated college knew I was happy doing music but also was just feeling a little lost on how to balance doing that and also finding a back up career. I thought about throwing in the towel and just moving back home and looking for work, but decided alright I’m going to put out this one song scrap all the other songs I had out and try something new that I felt more related to. That song ended up getting picked up on Spotifys Fresh Finds and Texas Country Now playlists and pushed my streams over 300k. So that kind of reignited a fire under my…can we cuss? … you know what I mean.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I don’t know if making an enemy here by saying it. Personally I don’t think record labels and radio really know what people want to hear. I think they like to think they do. They get proven wrong a lot though. There’s a lot of musicians who have been told certain things and turned around and proved themselves independently and I think those artist should get way more credit. But also what do I know I don’t get paid for thinking.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When have you had to bet the company?
I think I bet my company every day. I really don’t have a filter which is crazy to think since I use a microphone and talk in front of groups of people for a living. Things people won’t agree with or might offend them, but I think the great thing is that we live in a country where they don’t have to agree with me. I just try to stay genuine to how I was raised and that I truly do care for people. While also not tip toeing around egg shells for the rest of my life.
