Allie McMasters

Hi Allie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Back in high school (2015), my love for baking took root.

Homeschooled and with spare time, I turned it into a side hustle, baking for the community and juggling a part-time gig at a local business.

Balancing school, work, and late-night baking, I honed my skills both in the kitchen and in business. College didn’t appeal; the real world beckoned.

With encouragement from my boss and family, a plan unfolded. Taking on more at the small business, they supported my dream. From 2017 to 2019, I saved up and bought equipment piece by piece and learned the ropes of electrical work and plumbing to set up a kitchen/storefront from scratch.

In October 2019, Allie Grace Bakery opened. Despite a pandemic and startup struggles, we continued to grow. Expanding our menu and collaborating locally, I discovered my true passion – bringing people together.

The journey continues, fueled by naivety and determination. Excited to see where it leads next.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No. Being a young woman in business I find it difficult to be taken seriously. Imposter syndrome is totally real. After just 5 months of being open, we had to shut down for a pandemic from March – July. I could go on and on about the experiences.

As you know, we’re big fans of Allie Grace Bakery. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Allie Grace Bakery, we’re committed to using the best ingredients in our baked goods. We source our eggs, milk, coffee beans, chocolate products, and other ingredients locally when possible, and make conscious decisions when selecting our suppliers.

We offer a changing variety of authentic scratch-baked goods inspired by different cultures, a wide selection of fresh lunch menu items, and locally roasted crafted coffee drinks. We serve as a space for community by collaborating with local craftsman/artists and opening our doors to different women oriented groups to gather.

We pride ourselves in delicious pastries and coffee, fresh food, and excellent service.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
I wouldn’t label myself as a risk-taker, but I hold the belief that when you consider the dichotomy of risky and not risky, everything falls under the umbrella of risk. In that case, it makes sense to channel your efforts into something you are genuinely interested in.
