Community Highlights: Meet Amber Hurdle of Amber Hurdle Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Hurdle. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Amber Hurdle Consulting was birthed when she decided to leave the corporate world after a family loss. She aspired to be a “hardcore executive coach,” but quickly found herself known as a branding and leadership expert, crafting personal, employer, and business brands by combining science and marketing principles.

Her big business roster quickly grew with brands like Loews Hotels, FedEx, Marriott, Stella & Dot, Holiday Inn, and more. Meanwhile, Amber’s passion for women in business also grew as she empathized with the struggles they shared.

She knew her big-business paradigm, mixed with her clear communication style could help female entrepreneurs gain the confidence they need through establishing proven strategies to transform their businesses and their lives. Looking for a way to validate and encourage women in business, Amber redefined the term “Bombshell” to mean a bold, brave, unwaveringly confident woman in business.” Her relentless championing of women, along with her own story of going from a teen mom to a powerhouse business women (including owning a celebrity event planning company) resonates with women worldwide who also want to overcome the obstacles they face every day in pursuit of their ideal lifestyle.

In 2006 Amber launched The Bombshell Business Podcast, and on October 1, 2017, she launched The Bombshell Business Woman: How to Become a Bold, Brave, Female Entrepreneur. She went on a nationwide book tour, appearing on several morning and afternoon shows, and her debut book is in Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, and online via Amazon, Target, and Walmart.

In 2019 Amber was recognized among the “Top 40 Under 40” by the Nashville Business Journal, by the The Nashville Area Chamber’s Nashville Emerging Leader Awards (NELA) as the winner in the Business Services category, and by Global Gurus for being among the top 30 brand professionals for 2020 and 2021.

Known as “The Velvet Machete,” AHC rebranded the podcast to Velvet Machete Leadership Podcast and rolled out the Velvet Machete Leadership Academy, an 8-week leadership certification course, and the Velvet Machete Leadership Society membership, both of which support those who understand the power of strategic brand leadership.

Amber continues to serve small business owners, large brands, and associations through her speaking, consulting, and coaching services, along with her online offerings, using people data to inform the brand strategy.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Business is ever-evolving. Most recently, Covid took out my industry (speaking) and we all had to decide upon our next steps. It also gravely impacted the industries I served extensively: luxury hotels, entertainment, and meeting and conventions. But a strong brand can pivot and people will continue to find ways to align with the brands they trust. We were able to rebuild our business model by listening to the needs of the individuals we serve, rather than the organizations who were figuring out their new normals, as well. By being able to quickly meet the needs of leaders nationwide, we built and grew new offerings that are far more future-proof without abandoning the offerings that got us to where we are to date.

As you know, we’re big fans of Amber Hurdle Consulting. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Amber Hurdle Consulting is a multi-award-winning firm that pioneers using both science and marketing principles to strengthen brands from the inside out.

We work with leaders on their personal brands, so they increase self-awareness and see and harvest the greatness in others, increasing productivity and profits.

We use a scientific, repeatable method to recruit, retain and inspire top talent, elevating the culture while crafting a world-class employer brand.

We then help leverage strong leaders and a “best places to work” environment so that happy employees are serving happy customers…ultimately elevating your business brand.

Amber was recognized among the top 30 Branding Global Gurus for 2021 and 2020, but she didn’t simply become obsessed with brands because she happened to choose that for her career. It was because she was a teen mom who had to figure out how to speed up her success to take care of her daughter. She didn’t realize she was learning about branding as she paid close attention to what people valued about her so she could do more of it, increasingly amplifying her influence. However, her combination of a Ph.D. from the School of Hard Knocks, a degree in public relations, and over twenty years of branding and marketing experience sets apart in her category.

What matters most to you?
My children matter to me most because they are the next generation of leaders who will make their mark in this world. There is no one out in the world I could possibly coach, consult with, teach, or speak to that would be more important for me to invest in and hopefully lead well.
