Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Nettles
Hi Beth, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In 2018, my then 5 year old son fractured his femur on Thanksgiving day jumping to catch a football. He had a plate and screws put into his tiny leg and was unable to walk for a couple of months. During this time, we had a trip planned to go snow skiing with family in Taos, NM. My husband doesn’t ski. We have another son who was 2 at the time and was not skiing. I knew I wouldn’t get much skiing in but we needed a get away, so we decided to take the trip. We are “always take the trip” kind of people. However, this one almost did us in. It started when we arrived in the airport parking garage. We got our sons out of the car. Put the oldest in the wheelchair. I grabbed the luggage. My husband grabbed the 2 car seats each weighing 19 lbs. We looked at each other and realized we didn’t have any hands available to push the wheelchair. So we told our 2 year old he was going to have to get our 5 year old into the airport. It seems like comical chaos now but at the time, it was anything but comical. There’s a slight incline to get into the airport, and I wasn’t sure our 2 year old was going to get the wheelchair up it. We made it. It was not easy and did not set tone for a happy vacation. We were all stressed and mad at each other. I kept thinking there has to be a better way. What do other people do when flying with kids and car seats and luggage and travel cribs and strollers and alllll the things?
After many conversations and much research, I realized everyone pretty much does the same thing. They get really overwhelmed and usually end up having to apologize to their spouse for all the ugly things that were said during the time of stress. This is not how I wanted to travel. Sure there will always be hiccups when traveling but wouldn’t it be so much nicer and easier if you were able to have a free hand or 2? This is how KreweCar was born. Born of the desire to hold my children’s hands as I show them the world. Traveling without carrying 19 lbs of car seat makes this possible.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m not sure I can put into words just how challenging this journey has been. I saw a quote somewhere that said outside of sports, there are no higher highs and lower lows than entrepreneurship. I think that may be true.
No part of this business has been easy. Insurance, permits, funding, hiring, you name it, I’ve fought for it to happen.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
