Community Highlights: Meet Brian Truman of SVN | Accel Commercial Real Estate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Truman. 

Hi Brian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My passion in commercial real estate is to help first-time investors go from first-time investor to portfolio maximization that create enough passive income that the client can choose a life by design. Here’s how I started… 

Brian Truman joined SVN | Accel Group in 2016, specializing in multi-family, land development, and business brokerage sales. He understands the mindset of business and building owners. His passion is to help his clients achieve generational wealth. 

His previous national sales experience and his obsession with service have increased the team’s overall deal size and reach. Brian is an accomplished sales professional with 24 years of sales—both consultative and change management and selling. He has negotiated both in the public and private sectors, with experience in selling to C-level decision-makers and business owners doing deals in the hundreds of millions. 

With a reputation as a successful collaborator, project management, and budgeting, he has 16 years doing deals of all levels. Not only has Brian worked in the Public Sector for his previous job, but he has also served in the Public Sector as a City Councilman and Board of Zoning and Appeals member. 

Brian’s team are no strangers to success. His commercial team consists of knowledgeable, results-driven brokers backed by the most innovative and scalable technology the commercial real estate industry has to offer in buying and selling multifamily real estate. Their mission is to inspire, guide, in order for their clients to create, grow and maintain generational wealth for their clients through investment in commercial real estate and buying businesses. 

Brian and his wife reside in the Middle Tennessee since 2006. They have four sons, who all live locally. 

I started specializing in Multi-Family after I received a call the evening before Christmas Eve 2016 when my wife and I were leaving to go out for dinner. They call was from a gentleman out of state who said he had until 12 pm that evening to identify 3 properties for his 1031 exchange. I immediately made some calls to property owners on way to dinner and was able to call him back within 30 mins and give him the addresses of 3 properties for his identification. Which we then went under contract within a couple of days and this gentleman is still a client today and will be speaking at Accelerate about investing. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
In Commercial Real Estate, every deal has the opportunity to overcome obstacles. If this was an easy job, everyone would be doing it. I thrive on the challenge and creative problem-solving. People think we are in the Real Estate Business, but we are really in the People Business. Each of our clients have a unique set of challenges, whether it is gaining courage to make their first investment, maximizing their existing portfolio or creating Generation Wealth. We solve those problems, through educating our clients, giving them access to deals they would not otherwise have, and being a trusted advisor to simplify process, strategy, and decision making as much as possible. In this market, we have to dig deep and think outside the box to find product. The investors from all over the world have their eyes trained on Tennessee, often outbidding our local investors. We strive to find ways to satisfy both investor types. 

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The thing that sets us apart from other Brokerages is amount of education that we offer our clients. In addition to individualized coaching and training we offer the following. 

We host and facilitate a Learning Series each month, one for Generational Wealth, Business Bridges, and a Multi-Family Focus Group, and Last but certainly not least our Accelerate Event in June of this year. 

Multi-Family Focus Group – This event is held the first Thursday of the month at 2 pm. This event is specifically for anyone, new to seasoned investors in the Multi-Family segment of Commercial Real Estate. We cover the topics such as syndication, underwriting, financing, and sourcing the investors’ deals. 

Generation Wealth – Held on the second Thursday of each month at 6 pm, this event is free and open to the public (registration required). This series helps people learn how to Create, Grow and Maintain Generation Wealth through Commercial Real Estate. With speakers who are subject matter experts and already doing it along with trusted vendor partners who can help them along their way to success. 

Business Bridges – Held on the third Thursday of the month at 6 pm, also a free event and open to the public (registration required). Here you can come and learn best practices for purchasing or selling businesses. 

Accelerate Event – The first of its kind in the Nashville area of this scale. We have National speakers that will be discussing how to scale your business, personal and professional asset protection and growth, building your brand and your team, investing in Commercial Real Estate and Businesses, Wealth Management, and more. This is a paid event. 

What were you like growing up?
I was a pretty shy kid and a wallflower in High School. I enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, whether that was hiking, camping or hunting. I grew up in a small community where I had the opportunity to participate in all the sports offered at my High School, and I was State Pantomime Champion and Debate Champion in High School.
