Today we’d like to introduce you to Chas Bugge & Paige MacKinnon.
Hi Chas & Paige, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
1087 Studios started over a decade ago by Glen Weiss. Glen built 1087 with the intention of creating an affordable, quality production space so that budget didn’t need to be a barrier to bringing a vision to life.
When Glen retired in 2024, we were lucky enough to be the successors to carry on the space. And we absolutely love it — as queer small business owners who know what it is like to balance vision with budget, we are beyond proud of our commitment to affordability, accessibility, and inclusivity. Whether you’re an artist just starting out or a pro who has been in the game for years, we want you to feel comfortable, supported, and able to create your best work.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In our first few months of ownership, we had to close shop for a couple weeks due to flooding and water pooling causing some damage to our cyclorama wall. That definitely wasn’t the smoothest of times, but all the obstacles, truly every single one, has just taught us more about the space and how to keep improving it. That’s been our drive every day – to make it better than yesterday, but not as great as tomorrow.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
1087 Studios is a creative studio space in Nashville built for photographers, filmmakers, musicians, small businesses, and artists of all kinds. We offer a fully equipped, affordable, and inclusive space where people can bring their ideas to life—whether that’s shooting a music video, taking portraits, or creating content for their brand.
We’ve got over a dozen professional lighting gear options, 25 different colors of seamless paper backdrops, and a 36′ x 12′ cyclorama wall, plus all the extras that make shoots easier—lounges, dressing rooms, free parking, and easy access. But more than that, the studio was designed to feel welcoming and accessible so that creators at every level, from first-timers to pros, feel supported and comfortable.
At its core, 1087 Studios is about making a high-quality creative space available to everyone, without the stress or sky-high costs that usually come with it.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
We love how absolutely creative this city is. It’s incredible. Every day we get to meet musicians, videographers, photographers, dancers, models, and no two clients walking into our door are making the same thing. Truly. There are so many unique visions, beautiful styles, and incredible talents in this city. It’s inspiring to get to be around all day every day.
