Community Highlights: Meet Chris Linscomb of Web designs by Chris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Linscomb.

Chris, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started coding back in the mid-90s with HTML and CSS. I bought a book, which I still have today, called HTML Goodies by Joel Burns, Ph.D. I was working another job at a medical lab; they made medical products. I would arrive home and continue to practice on my laptop I bought back then, a Dell. Moving forward to the 2000s. I moved to TN from TX, where I was born. What brought me to TN was my now wife, Kessie. I was working at a boat manufacturing place, but I still enjoyed coding. Some people at the church I started going to knew I enjoyed computers and brought me some coding books. I would continue to learn when I had time. Moving to 2008 At this time I was attending medical school for an X-ray tech when the opportunity came up for me to create a website for the church I was attending. Between both, I was able to get it done using HTML and CSS and even started learning media queries for websites to be responsive. I passed the x-ray school and had interviews, but nothing. Staying focused, another job came open for an electric company. I did the same HTML and CSS. The business web designs by Chris were started. While I still did coding. I did some research on CMS (content management systems) and found out about WordPress, still the most popular out of Joomla and Wix. WordPress is built on PHP, and I have learned some of that. In about 2014 I was voted in as the promotions director of our association; I served for a few years. I now have several clients throughout the USA, from churches to small, medium, and large businesses, along with startups. The new thing I have learned is app design and development, and I have sold several apps. This was not easy; each part of the app, the components to make it work, was trial and error and lots of testing. I would take a break but not give up on more research and testing. I enjoy what I do, and I am very thankful to GOD that my business continues to grow. I do continue to learn and move forward. Whatever you enjoy, learn about it and learn to make it better than before.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been good smooth parts and rough parts at times. I have learned so much going through the rough times; from those rough times, you learn to grow and fix what problems you ran into to make them better. We all go through times like these; either you correct and learn from it or go do something else. I continue to move forward in learning; sometimes it does feel like you’re on a roller coaster with the ups and downs. I find taking a break sitting sometimes quietly outside hearing nature and spending time with my wife and our dog and 2 cats can get you refocused. Looking back I am glad I did not stop; of all the clients I do good work for, I would have never met them. I have met people who lift you up and also help give you guidance. Talking with other designers and developers and hearing what they may deal with in a way lifts each other up. I would say continue to move forward, take a break sometimes if you need to, and get refocused and move on.

We’ve been impressed with Web designs by Chris, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Web Designs by Chris is a web design and development business; you can relax and know all is taken care of with what I do. What sets me apart from others is I provide my clients with what they want and need all in one because sometimes they don’t always know what’s good or bad for their website. Web Designs by Chris is a brand that offers the best product at an affordable price.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe there are two types of people in the world: those who let the fear of risk keep them confined within the boundaries of societal safety, and those who see risk as the very path to opportunity. In web design, managing risks demands a departure from conventional strategies. Embrace a culture of experimentation and adaptability, where challenges are viewed as opportunities for innovation. Prioritize clear communication and robust contingency plans to navigate uncertainties with confidence. By daring to be bold and original in your approach to risk management, you’ll not only safeguard your projects but also uncover untapped potential for transformative growth.
