Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Watson.
Hi Dawn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started Dawn’z Dirt B Gone with less than $100, a few basic cleaning supplies from the dollar store, and a determination to create something better for my family and my future. In the beginning, I was simply focused on doing good work, treating people well, and earning trust one home at a time.
What started with a handful of clients slowly grew through consistency, word of mouth, networking, and a commitment to never stop learning. Over the years, I’ve invested countless hours into improving not only my knowledge of the cleaning industry, but also my leadership skills and the systems behind the business. I truly believe that growth never stops, and even after years in business, I’m still actively learning and looking for ways to serve our clients and support our team better.
One of the things I’m most proud of is building a company culture centered around integrity, kindness, and quality. As the business grew, I was fortunate to build a team of people who share those same values and genuinely care about the work they do.
The journey certainly hasn’t been without challenges. Like many small business owners, there have been seasons of uncertainty, sacrifices, and obstacles that tested me. But those experiences taught me resilience and reminded me why I started in the first place.
Today, I’m incredibly grateful for how far we’ve come. What began with a dream and a small investment has grown into a business that serves families, supports employees, gives back to the community, and continues to evolve. I never take any of it for granted, and I still approach each day with the same mindset I had in the beginning: work hard, stay humble, keep learning, and always give people your very best.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road.
Like many small businesses, we’ve experienced our share of challenges over the years. One of the biggest obstacles came during COVID. We were just beginning to gain momentum when everything suddenly changed. Like so many others, we faced uncertainty, had to pause operations for a time, and lost some clients along the way.
As we’ve grown, one of the ongoing challenges has been building the right team. In our industry, trust means everything. We aren’t just cleaning homes and businesses.. we’re being invited into people’s personal spaces. Finding individuals who are reliable, take pride in their work, and genuinely care about serving others has always been incredibly important to me.
There have also been seasons of uncertainty and moments that tested my confidence as a business owner. But through every challenge, I’ve remained committed to the mission and the values the company was built on.
My faith has played a huge role in my journey. I pray over my business, my team, and the people we serve. I’ve learned that success isn’t about avoiding difficulties, it’s about continuing to move forward through them. I credit a lot of my determination to my mom, who raised me to be resilient and never give up.
Looking back, I can honestly say that some of the hardest seasons taught me the most. Those experiences shaped not only the business, but also the leader I’ve become today.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Dawn’z Dirt B Gone is a residential and commercial cleaning company built on integrity, kindness, and quality. We provide a variety of cleaning services, but what I hope people remember most isn’t just what we clean—it’s how we make people feel. We want our clients to know they can trust us, count on us, and feel comfortable being themselves without judgment.
One thing that sets us apart is our commitment to building genuine relationships. We truly care about the people we serve, our community, and the team members who make everything possible. I’ve always believed that a company’s reputation isn’t built by advertising alone, it’s really built through consistent service and the experience clients have every time we walk through their doors and every time we communicate with them.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the team we’ve built and the culture we’ve created together. They are the backbone of this company, and their dedication and heart are what make our success possible.
I’m also proud that we’ve continued moving forward through every challenge we’ve faced. There have been seasons when giving up would have been easier, but I never lost sight of the mission behind the business. I believe we have the opportunity to make a positive difference in people’s lives, whether that’s by giving families more time together, supporting our employees and their families, or serving our community through initiatives like our Cancer Care Cleanings Program.
At the end of the day, I want people to know that Dawn’z Dirt B Gone is about much more than cleaning. It’s about serving people well, leading with integrity, and continuing to grow while staying true to the values we were founded on.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest, first and foremost, is my two sons. Watching them grow into young men I’m proud of has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. They each have their own personalities and strengths, but they share many of the values that are important to me.. kindness, resilience, and treating people with respect. Seeing the people they are becoming brings me more joy than any professional accomplishment ever could.
Professionally, what makes me happiest is knowing that the work we do truly matters. Cleaning may seem simple on the surface, but I’ve learned over the years that what we provide often goes much deeper than that. Sometimes we’re helping busy families reclaim precious time together. Sometimes we’re supporting individuals who physically can’t maintain their homes on their own. Sometimes we’re helping local businesses present their best to their customers. Being able to make people’s lives a little easier and a little brighter is incredibly rewarding.
I’m also grateful for the team we’ve built. It makes me happy to work alongside people who trust one another, extend grace when mistakes happen, and continue learning and growing together. None of us are perfect, and I believe some of the strongest teams are built through mutual respect, accountability, and support.
Giving back also brings me a great deal of joy. I never forget where I came from or the seasons in life when I needed help myself. Because of that, it has always been important to me to pay it forward whenever possible. Being in a position to serve others and make a positive impact on our community is something I never take for granted.
At the end of the day, people are what make me happiest; my family, my team, our clients, and the opportunity to serve others in meaningful ways.
