Community Highlights: Meet Deja Jackson of From Your Father

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deja Jackson.

Hi Deja, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
“I grew up in Nashville in a single-parent home. My mom worked hard to provide, but we faced many challenges that came with it. There were times I felt unseen and carried the weight of not having my father in my life.

But even in those difficult seasons, God gave me a calling — to take my experiences and use them to bring hope to other children and mothers walking the same road. I started organizing and fundraising as a teenager, and later on I launched what has now become From Your Father.

Children without fathers often grow up facing obstacles in every area of life — struggling in school, battling low self-esteem, and lacking even the basics. Their moms are left to do double duty, often worn down and unseen. At the same time, countless people in our community want to help but don’t know where to start.

At From Your Father, we make that change possible. We walk alongside families so moms grow in confidence, financial stability, and healthy decision-making. Children feel safe, discover new opportunities, and develop resilience for the future. And community members find simple, meaningful ways to step in. The result is transformation: families moving from crisis to stability, and from stability to thriving. Most importantly knowing that they are loved by God,

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
“No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Being a young, minority, Christian founder has presented many challenges — from people underestimating me to doors being closed that I thought should have been opened. But those same challenges have also created opportunities for people to see the power of God at work through my story and through this mission.

One of the best examples was recently, when I heard ‘no’ from a foundation I was pursuing. At first it was disappointing, but it turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to me. It pushed me to get creative, to think outside of the box, and to trust God’s provision in new ways. Each ‘no’ has only sharpened my vision and deepened my faith.”

As you know, we’re big fans of From Your Father . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At From Your Father, we exist to show God’s love to fatherless children and single mothers in Nashville. We don’t just provide short-term aid — we walk alongside families so they can move from crisis to stability, and from stability to thriving.

What we’re known for is combining practical resources with transformational experiences. Through our Love Boxes, families receive essentials like food, diapers, and household items. But we go further — our Out of the Box Experiences help children and moms grow in social-emotional strength, financial literacy, health, and spiritual resilience. It’s about equipping families to not just survive, but thrive.

What sets us apart is that this isn’t charity, it’s community. We invite donors, volunteers, and families into a shared journey. Everyone plays a role — moms discover confidence and stability, children find safety and opportunity, and community members find meaningful ways to step in.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that From Your Father is recognized for dignity and love. Families don’t just receive a box of items — they feel seen, valued, and supported. And that’s the heart of our brand: showing up in ways that restore hope and remind people they belong.”

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
