Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Tolentino.
Hi Devin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started REDLINE Quality Fitness in 2017. My background in fitness came from the sport of triathlon and I really wanted to develop a periodized approach to strength and conditioning in a similar fashion to training and peaking for a triathlon/race. Out of the dozens of gyms I’ve worked at over the last 20 years I noticed no one was progressing their group fitness classes or personal training clients by measuring, training, and re-testing. The foundation of REDLINE is “Lift, Bike, Run”.. similar to the triathlon approach of Swim, Bike, Run. Lifting took place of the swimming in the gym, as I wanted our clients to have the strength and power of a weightlifter with the endurance of a triathlete. I have always wanted REDLINE to be a place where performance and effort always comes before fluff and fake “good job” all you have to do is show up. All though showing up is a huge part of improving your fitness, we believe that the ability to fail and try again harder is what REDLINE is all about. Anyone can do REDLINE, but REDLINE is not for everyone. If you are someone who enjoys being held accountable and willing to work hard mentally and physically, REDLINE is for you.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I feel very blessed that for REDLINE specifically, we have always found the smooth road. As most gyms experienced, COVID was a weird time and business certainly slowed down. To be completely honest, I made the decision from day 1 that COVID would not change REDLINE. It made no sense to me that shutting down a place where people improve their health would be a proper way to operate. I would never force someone out of their home if they felt like it was a dangerous time, but I sure as heck kept the doors open for those who cared about their health… and I’m glad I did. Thanks to the wonderful members that have been in and out of these doors.. REDLINE will continue to run smooth and steady.
We’ve been impressed with REDLINE Quality Fitness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Business: We are a Strength and Conditioning gym offering group classes, personal training, corporate training and youth fitness.
What should you know?: Myself and my staff have been in this industry for decades. We are the best at what we do, and there Is no one better in the area.
What sets us apart?: REDLINE has been a periodized approach to group fitness and PT since day 1. We believe in our method and when people come into the gym they know exactly what they are working on. Our coaches also follow the same program that is offered in our classes.
What am I most proud of? 1) The fact that we stayed open during COVID. 2) we do not do any paid marketing or branding… everything is done in-house.
What do I wanted readers to know about REDLINE? If you are at a point in your life where you think it’s time to get yourself healthy and strong (the right way)… come see us.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson(s) I’ve learned was instilled in me as a child….
The first was from my mother… she would always tell me.. “Do it right, or don’t do it at all”
The second was from my grandfather…. “When it feels like hell… just keep going”
Running a business certainly has it’s challenges but I have come to learn that giving up is never in my cards. I tell my kids now.. “you’re a Tolentino and Tolentino’s never give up”
