Community Highlights: Meet Emily Grindell of Calm For Clutter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Grindell

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I became a professional organizer at the age of 18 for a company called Puka Organizing. I met my former boss at a sonic drive through where she talked about what she did for living and I immediately fell in love with her and the job. I worked my way up to be an on-site manager and would assist her in consultations. Almost 9 years in, I was pregnant with my second child when Covid happened, so I took a step back to focus on my kids. I decided to start my own business in spring of 2021! I fell in love with helping others grow and change the trajectory of their lives. The busy moms, the working parents, the grieving, the lost, and all in between. My vision for the company was to create peaceful and effective environments. I wanted to not just be about aesthetics and beauty but bring functionality into day to day life of my clients as well. I wanted it to be a safe place for clients to be vulnerable and be intentional about every decision and system I created for my clients. Organizing now for over 12 years, learning everyday and having a passion to grow!!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles of running a company are never ending with how to budget, how to build a team I can trust to high standards, how to build a community from scratch, to learning how to perfect systems- old and new and how to best serve clients with different needs and obstacles.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Calm For Clutter?
Calm For Clutter got its name from a vision to bring peace and calmness into every home we enter. Trading our calm for your stress, anxiety, and chaos.

We are a professional organizing company who services Nashville, TN and surrounding areas. We specialize in crafting a plan, creating a specific and unique design that works perfectly for our clients. What sets Calm For Clutter apart from other professional organizers is the unique plans for each individual client versus a one size fits all solution. We value aesthetic and beauty in a space but value functionality just as much.

I am most proud of Calm For Clutter for the impact it’s made on our clients. We have countless stories of how the company has changed people’s lives for the better. Whether it bringing freedom back into the home or client, removing burdens they carry, or creating a space they never imagined possible!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up very organized and orderly. From as early as 5 years old, I would open a bag of m&ms or skittles and first sort them by color, then determine the odd numbers, eat those first and work my way down the bag.

I grew up as a middle child with two sisters in between who borrowed lots of things from me. The way I had my room set up even at the age of 12, I knew exactly what was missing or was used then put “back.” My systems in my room were very detailed oriented and therefore would notice any changes.

I grew up wanting to reorganize and decorate my room often. My birthdays I would request new decor to play with to change the design of my space.

I grew up wanting to do all of the cleaning and organizing in the house because It made me happy, and I noticed a shift in those around me as well. A clean and organized space made people comfortable and calm which brought me joy.
