Community Highlights: Meet Emily Roose of Emily Roose Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Roose

Hi Emily, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Certainly! My journey in the world of design began about 15 years ago after I was laid off from my position as a promotions and digital content director in radio. With a longstanding interest and love for architecture and interior design, I decided to return to school to pursue a career in interior design. I initially worked in Los Angeles for two remarkable interior designers, and over a decade ago, I moved to the picturesque Lake Tahoe area. There, I gained valuable experience working for a showroom, an international architecture firm, and custom home builders, which provided me with a multi-faceted background and inspired me to venture out on my own.

Seven years ago, I founded Emily Roose Interiors in Truckee, California, offering full-service interior design for residential, commercial, hospitality, and multi-family developments, as well as bespoke custom furniture and light fixture design. We serve a wide array of clients, investors, and developers. As an international award-winning interior and furniture designer, I set out to create spaces that are both luxurious and transformative.

Recently, I made the exciting move to Nashville, expanding our services to Middle Tennessee, Georgia, and other surrounding areas. This transition has allowed us to bring our innovative design solutions to a broader audience.

Over the years, our internationally recognized work has been featured in esteemed publications such as Elle Decor, Mountain Living Magazine, Tahoe Quarterly Magazine, Abode2, and more. We’ve had the privilege of working on notable projects in prestigious gated golf communities like Martis Camp, Lahontan, Shaffer’s Mill in Truckee, California, and Kukuiula Kauai, Hawaii. Each opportunity has pushed our creative boundaries and delivered exceptional results.

Our services have expanded to include everything from furniture refreshes to full remodels and new builds. We’ve also embraced digital innovation with our “Design on Demand” E-Design service, making luxury design accessible to a broader audience.

While the journey has been filled with challenges such as starting a business from scratch, building brand awareness, and scaling to diversify our offerings, it has been incredibly rewarding. I’m driven by the desire to explore my capabilities and create spaces that truly improve lives. Looking ahead, I’m excited about future projects, including launching a custom furniture line and expanding my team, which will allow us to continue delivering cutting-edge design solutions.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like all businesses, there are constant learning curves and economic challenges to navigate. A few years into my business, I faced significant personal changes with the birth of my son and subsequently going through a divorce. Balancing life as a single mom and a business owner has been a challenge.

Since moving to Nashville, it has felt like starting over, especially with my business. I’ve been focusing on networking, building brand awareness, and learning an entirely new market. Finding your voice and identifying your clients can be daunting, especially when trying to stand out in a sea of other talented and respected designers.

Ultimately, I want a better life for my son, and I believe that this big move to Nashville is a crucial step toward achieving that goal.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

What makes me happy is improving the lives of those I work with and seeing them excited about their spaces. The joy of knowing that my clients will love and cherish their spaces for years to come is incredibly rewarding and keeps me passionate about being a designer. Although the industry can be challenging, my deep passion for sustainability, health, and wellness drives me to create environments that are not only beautiful but also beneficial to my clients’ well-being.

I also find happiness in educating my clients and walking with them through the design process. I strive to ensure that each design reflects my clients’ unique identities rather than conforming to a single style or trend. It’s this personal connection and the transformative power of design that truly bring me joy.
