Today we’d like to introduce you to Fleur Childs.
Hi Fleur, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started The Artful Bachelorette back in Brooklyn when I was new to America—pretty fresh off the boat from Australia, as we say. One of my American girlfriends was getting married and had no idea what to do for her bachelorette party. I said, “Well, obviously… draw the hot nude dude!” And she just stared at me and said, “Wait—what is that?” And I was like, “What do you mean, what is that?!”
That was my lightbulb moment. I thought everything cool came out of New York—but this hadn’t. In Australia, it’s practically tradition: when you’re getting married, you gather your best girls, pour some bubbly, and spend the night drawing a gorgeous nude model while a fun art teacher guides you through it. It’s cheeky, it’s creative, and it’s surprisingly cathartic.
So I created it. We hosted our first party in a Brooklyn loft, and from there it took off. Now we’re in 14 cities across the U.S., including Nashville, bringing a bit of Aussie charm, art, and tasteful nudity to celebrations across the country. It’s classy, a little sassy, and a whole lot of fun.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Ha! Smooth? Absolutely not. The job of an entrepreneur is never smooth sailing—more like a rollercoaster in a thunderstorm with no seatbelt. And the road? Definitely not linear. Twisty, bumpy, and occasionally off a cliff.
There have been plenty of ups and downs over the past 13 years—one of the biggest being the global pandemic, which hit event-based businesses like mine hard. Overnight, everything paused. But we got creative, pivoted, and kept the spirit of connection and creativity alive however we could.
I’m still learning every single day, and honestly—I love it. I feel incredibly lucky to do work that’s joyful, celebratory, and a little rebellious. Creating space for people to let loose, laugh, and connect through art? That’s the dream. Even on the tough days, I wouldn’t trade it.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Artful Bachelorette. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We run two-hour live figure-drawing fêtes where gorgeous human “muses” strike cheeky poses and professional artists—our Artful Guides—lead the crowd with charisma and lots of laughs. We hand you charcoal pencils encased in wood, oversized sheets of paper, a splash of bubbly if you fancy, and the promise that you’ll “learn a little, laugh a lot.”
What we actually do
Pop-up in private homes, chic studios, rooftop bars—wherever you want the party.
Supply everything: model, materials, music, ice-breaker games, and a high-energy host who keeps the giggles flowing.
Celebrate any milestone: bachelorettes, bachelors, birthdays, babies, divorces (we call those “Freedom Parties”), new jobs, anniversaries—heck, we’ve done retirement parties and Tuesday-just-because.
What sets us apart
Five-star swagger – 13 years, 14 cities, zero dip below 5 stars on Yelp & Google. That consistency is my proudest badge.
Hand-picked talent – Every muse and every guide is scouted by me. They’re charming, body-positive, and know how to make even your shy auntie crack up and pick up a pencil.
Bespoke by design – From playlist to drawing prompts, we tailor each party so it never feels cookie-cutter.
Class meets cheek – It’s high-end enough for your fancy friends, cheeky enough for your fun friends, and comfortable for everyone in between.
What I want Nashville readers to know
If you’re after an experience that’s equal parts art class, comedy show, and champagne-fueled therapy session—without the tacky trappings—give us a ring. We’ll rock up with our pencils, our muses, and our signature blend of classy-meets-sassy energy and make your celebration the talk of the town (or honky-tonk).
Bottom line: we turn life’s milestones into masterpieces, one cheeky charcoal sketch at a time. Come draw with us—your inner artist (and your Instagram feed) will thank you.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Before starting my own company, I had a series of absolutely terrible bosses. Truly dreadful. But in a way, that was its own form of mentorship—just in reverse! I learned exactly what not to do: how not to treat people, how not to lead, and how not to kill creativity. So when I finally launched The Artful Bachelorette, I knew I wanted to build something joyful, supportive, and empowering—from the inside out.
As for networking, it really is an art form—and one that can feel deeply awkward for a lot of people. I’m pretty easy-going and genuinely curious, so I usually just walk up to someone and say, “Hi, I’m Fleur,” with a smile. That’s it. Break the ice, be a human, don’t overthink it. More often than not, people are relieved someone else made the first move.
My best advice? Be bold, be kind, and be interested—not just interesting. You don’t need a fancy elevator pitch, you just need to show up as yourself. The rest tends to unfold from there.
