Today we’d like to introduce you to Fred Kapfhammer.
Hi Fred, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We started in 2018 with three canoes and three kayaks. My mother and I was having lunch one day discussing things to do in the Murfreesboro area. We quickly realized after talking that a kayak/ canoe rental business would be something that could benefit the community and give teens and adults something do to recreationally. So we formed the LLC on June 3, 2018 and every summer, we would just invest our profits back into the business. This year is our 4th year running and we have almost 60 kayaks to rent this season.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road. The struggles I found were just being a business owner and learning how to manage customers and employees. I’ve never had any experience working for myself so every step was learning something new and to this day, we still are improving and bettering our selfs and our business. When we hire someone we always let them know we work together as a team and not just for me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Stones River Kayak And Canoe Rentals LLC?
We are a mobile kayak business in the Smyrna and Murfreesboro area. Primarily running off of Jefferson Pike 266. We have a few float to choose from on our website. Also, we try to make everything streamlined and digital. From reservations, payment, waiver, and checking. Pretty much you pick a float once booked an email will be sent with all the info you need. Each float has its own designated parking area. Once parked we pick you up, shuttle you up river to the launch, get you in the river, and you float back to your vehicle the endpoint. We try to make sure customers don’t even have to carry or lift the kayaks just float.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
When I was growing up, I loved the outdoors and wanted to be a zoologist. When I was young, we favored icons like Steave Irwin so I was really into nature and the outdoors. It’s definitely helped me have more respect towards the environment. All in all, I was a friendly quite kid growing up
