Today we’d like to introduce you to Glenai Gilbert
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My photography journey started due to loss and wanting to commemorate my life. I lost my mother and other significant people in my life suddenly and didn’t have a lot of photos to remember my time with them.
Photography keeps memories alive and can trigger different senses through visually seeing a moment. One of the hardest parts of my grief journey was the fear of not remembering things and losing all the small details of my time with my loved ones.
Photography to me is a historical document and can connect you with friends, family, and those memories.
Through this passion for creating long-lasting moments for myself, I started having others request my photography services with portrait sessions and through that it lead me to wedding photography.
My goal with wedding photography has always been to create intentional, long lasting memories for our couples and their families. Our art is focused on individuals and the transition of emotions that they experience through their wedding day, and facilitating those moments to be more meaningful and special than just a quick portrait.
Being able to have a job that connects me to people and that is focused on love + community has brought so much purpose and fulfillment into my life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey to becoming a wedding photographer was a really easy transition. We had a great support system at the beginning, and our couples were always so loving and supportive.
It can be challenging with how much emotional equity we put into our services and relationships with couples. There have been times where some of our couples don’t have the best support system and we really become more than just a vendor through their experience –
Also, the pressure of having to capture someone’s “forever” memories can be overwhelming or daunting- and we have and will likely capture one of the last portraits of a loved one for our couples.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Glenai Gilbert Photography ?
My husband and I are a photography/videography team! We both feel very passionate about creating images that reflect the true nature of each couple’s love story. We choose not to pose our couples, but create environments that allow them to be themselves and feel comfortable around the camera. Our style is documentary- meaning we capture the day from start to finish like a story! We love candid moments that have everlasting memories, and have become skilled with facilitating those moments without being too intrusive. Wedding photography/videography is our passion because it represents something so beautiful, and allows us to capture long-lasting moments that have a purpose.
Nashville has so many amazing photographers but what sets us apart is how intentional we are with our couples. Our services aren’t just about the day of, and we have built lifetime relationships with our couples over the years.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think investing into each of our couples is a risk in itself- we give a part of ourselves to each person we work with and sacrifice time to maintain our values both personally and professionally.
Anytime you’re in the service industry, you’ll get a wide range of clients who may or may not appreciate what you’re able to provide. So connecting with the right people is important.
