Community Highlights: Meet Jackie Wagner of One Stop Home Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Wagner.

Hi Jackie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My husband, Josh, and I basically grew up together. We started dating when I was 16 and he was 18, got married in 2005, and then took the wrong path for several years. We chose a life of drugs and did not even have the first thought about what our future would hold outside of partying. We are so very thankful that the Lord had different plans for us. When we realized it was time to get it together, we both started to work on ourselves and find our paths in life. As far as our family, we are so very blessed with three beautiful children Levi (13), Mia Kate (9), and Hayes (6).
I got my bachelor’s degree from The University of Memphis as a Speech-Language Teacher in 2013, and Josh started to work for a restoration company in Jackson, TN. We spent several years before thinking it was time to grow even more. I decided to get my master’s degree, and my husband decided to start a business after being mentored by a very wise man in the restoration industry. In 2019, I became a Speech-Language Pathologist, graduating from Tennessee State University, and my husband started One Call Restoration LLC. We were living the dream working and raising our beautiful children. After a year of working with customers and learning more of their needs, Josh had the desire to then open another business to be a sister company to our restoration company. He opened One Stop Home Design in 2020 (we opened in January-two months before the world shut down). One Stop Home Design is tailored serve as a place to buy most needs to improve or build the interior of any home or business. We offer hardwood flooring, Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP), carpet, tile, countertops, and can find any item you need that we may not have access to at the time. I worked in the local school system for several years as an SLP and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the children while working in the school, however; we felt the need for me to be more involved in our businesses. With a lot of prayer and a very tough decision, I decided to decrease my time considerably. I am now only a contract employee, and I fill in if another SLP needs to be out for a length of time. I am so very thankful that we took that leap of faith. So here we are, just two people in love with one another wanting to share our story and our passion to help others make their home their sanctuary.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, but I think that is what has made us so resilient and dedicated to one another and our businesses. We made very poor choices (for about 10 years) prior to getting married and a few years after marriage. We have overcome some very tough addictions together with the Lord leading our path the entire time when we didn’t even know what He was doing. After cleaning our lives up we were blessed with our three beautiful children. We opened our store in January 2020, and the world shut down in March 2020. Talk about a huge stressor! By God’s grace we have survived and are still going. We look forward to what the future holds for us.

As you know, we’re big fans of One Stop Home Design. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are local to the Milan area where we provide just about anything you would need for the interior of a new home or a remodeling project. We have any flooring you may need, we can build custom showers, we have several cabinet lines from basic to full custom, and so much more. We enjoy helping others make their home their sanctuary. We are set apart from others because we also own a restoration company, so we have a ton of construction knowledge. Josh, my husband, is a general contractor so he knows all the guidelines to building and renovating. We have an excellent price point on most all of our products.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
We have had a ton of support! From the time we were getting our lives cleaned up to now. Our family supported us during very difficult times that no family should ever have to go through. I have had several mentors in the education world that have place a huge impact on my life. My husband had the best mentor ever, Steve Cherry, with Cherry Construction. We have such an inpouring of love from our church and our previous church. Keith and Lori Runyon are an absolute blessing to us in so many ways. We do not see them very often anymore, but they are so near and dear to our hearts.
