Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Palmer.
Hi Jason, can you start by introducing yourself?
Great to meet you! I’m a native of Bluefield, Virginia, where I went to Graham High School. I went to William & Mary for college where I majored in Government and minored in Math. My plan since I was young was to go to the NBA and then to law school. I followed that plan, except I skipped the NBA part. I’m married to THE most beautiful woman, and I own a fitness company and a law firm.
We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I love fitness. Weight training has been a part of my life for decades, and it has taught me many of my core values like dedication, consistency, and hard work. Training has been a common thread for me since before high school and through college. The values I learned through training were especially helpful at Vanderbilt University Law School, where I studied with some of the best and brightest minds in the country.
I did well, but that would have been impossible without those values. I then entered private practice and performed very well as an intellectual property and litigation attorney. Something was different this time, though: all of my hard work was devoted to the law, and none of it to my physical well-being. My 217-pound frame of 10% body fat had whittled over the years to 173 pounds. I lost touch with fitness, and I did not like it. So, I decided to change it. I forced myself back to the gym to regain the ground I lost. This “homecoming” rejuvenated me, and I opened my own intellectual property practice so that I could better control my physical fitness.
My time as an attorney made me a problem solver, and I’ve always been one to take the initiative to make things happen. One day in the gym, enjoying my reacquaintance with strength, I saw a problem. Everyone in the gym had a phone, but no one had a good place to put it. If it’s on the ground, it could easily be damaged. Plus, the floor is filled with dirt, grime, and (corona) viruses. I thought about this problem for months, and my research didn’t turn up any great existing solutions.
So, I taught myself CAD design, developed a concept, and brought MOOR to life. MOOR is a one-size-fits-all magnetic phone mount. It was not just a product of my core values, but also a reflection of them. Our name encourages others to keep giving their all on every set and to keep pursuing the things that mean the most to them. Never settle. And if you think there’s MOOR to life, there is, and you can get it. That’s the meaning of our slogan: “Lift. Do. Be.”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Creating a product from scratch is hard. Funding, demand, customer service, and product development (to name a few) all loom in every moment. Plus, I’m an attorney by trade, so things seemed doubly new and difficult to me. At the same time, the ups and downs of a roller coaster create more thrill than fear.
I’m ecstatic to be in control of my physical health, and the fact that I’m developing a fitness product is icing on the cake. Since I’m doing what I love, these things that may seem like fears or struggles to some are wrapped up in the thrill for me. I will plan, I will work, and I will overcome the obstacles.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about MOOR?
We make “the athlete’s phone mount,” called a MOOR. This magnetic phone mount is the simplest, most useful, and most common-sense device for every fitness enthusiast.
Every gym has 2 things: phones and metal. Our MOORs allow you to mount your phone almost anywhere in the gym so that it’s in a safe and clean place, allowing you to focus entirely on your workout. The great thing about our MOORs is that they are one-size-fits-all and they are affordable. Our customers love our product because they can buy one MOOR and use it with their current phone or their next phone, case on or case off. It’s compact and durable, and the strength of the ultra-strong magnets on our MOORs is unparalleled.
In addition to our MOORs, we are slowly rolling out additional phone mounting solutions for athletes. Our newest addition to the family is Pivot, a magnetic mount that swivels. This allows fitness influencers, coaches, and enthusiasts to mount and turn their phones to capture every angle of their workouts. We are slowly rolling out additional solutions that satisfy our standards. We prefer quality over quantity.
We are most proud of what we stand for. MOOR is about giving your all on every set, toward every goal, and for every dream. Keep pushing so that you can achieve everything you want, and then some. That’s our slogan: “Lift. Do. Be. MOOR.”
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Believe in yourself. It sounds cliché because it is. But it’s true. If you have a goal, don’t wait for others to affirm you.
Don’t let others dissuade you. Find what’s important to you and pursue it intelligently and relentlessly.
