Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Goodall. They and their team share their story with us below:
Clary Co-Founders Adriel Denae + Jen Goodall.
Clary Collection was born out of the connection we found during the pregnancies and births of our children – two souls who changed everything about the way we experience life and see the world. Our transition into motherhood sparked many changes in us, one of which was a new awareness of the value of clean skincare products for ourselves and our families.
Recognizing that the skin is the body’s largest organ and absorbs many toxins, we set out to source clean, effective skincare. However, we continually came up short. The “organic” market is saturated with “natural” claims, but often “clean” products still contain harmful components and harsh extracts.
We launched Clary Collection out of our kitchens in November 2016, and we have never been more proud or more sure of what we create and why we make it. We receive stories every week from families and individuals worldwide, affirming our desire to bring the powerful, comforting, healing, calming, and safe effectiveness of herbal skincare to others.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey we started together was rooted in motherhood. The incredible energy it takes to grow, birth, and care for a tiny human is exceptional. While it’s rewarding, it can also feel quite isolating and lonely.
It’s easy to become so absorbed in the responsibility of motherhood that you lose touch with certain parts of yourself and your ambition to create other things. But, as Clary grew, so did we as individuals.
Juggling motherhood and starting a business in a heavily saturated market was challenging but gave us the drive to succeed. We hope we can empower more moms to express their unique creativity and lead the charge to care for the planet and each other.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about CLARY COLLECTION?
At Clary, we are committed to making safe skincare for everybody.
We innovate by getting back to the basics with our handmade products and process rooted in hundreds of years of tradition, rediscovered. So you can care for your body while caring for the earth with radically clean products.
We are women-founded and operated, and we stock over 180 stores worldwide and online from our own Clary production spaces in Nashville + Wisconsin. We are now proud to have our entire line of balms and oils certified Non-Toxic by MADE SAFE® to be free of ingredients known to harm human health and ecosystems.
What were you like growing up?
Dropping out of school at 15 after attending 14 different schools who knew I’d find a business partner brave enough to launch Clary with!
However, moving around every six months and being raised in England and Australia gave me the tools to embrace every situation, including ending up in Nashville, once a small quiet city that now has one of the largest relocation populations in America.
Before Nashville, I worked for a non-profit called Small Steps Project. The charity provides Emergency aid and shoes (a requirement to attend school in countries like Cambodia, India, and East Timor) to children living on municipal trash sites worldwide.
Nashville has allowed me to continue volunteering for non-profit The Community Resource Center that provides critical essential items to our most vulnerable Middle Tennessee neighbors, both during times of disaster and during seasons of ongoing need. I am honored to be chairing this years fundraising event with some wonderful Nashville stars.
I am so thankful my journey landed me in Nashville, where I met my business and birthing partner, Adriel, the kindest, most talented woman I have known. She is everything I’m not— rational, patient, and good at numbers. I can see why Nashville is now one of the most desired states.
