Community Highlights: Meet Jessica Johnston of Le Luxe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Johnston.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I originally started as a professional makeup artist and relocated to LA in 2013. I was blessed with opportunities to work on commercials, press junkets, carpet events, and film festivals working alongside some very talented people and artists, which helped me network later on. As a makeup artist, I noticed more and more clients getting spray tans, some good and some not so good.

As artists, we had some major conflicts to deal with; color matching to the foundation, some tanning solutions were oily on the skin surface, and others caused dryness due to the alcohol base. I am always conscious of what goes on your skin goes in your skin and my mission to find a good solution was in full swing. I did endless research and testing on products to find something with the right ingredients.

I decided to go into airbrush tanning, and in 2014, I founded Le Luxe -a mobile spray tanning company that offers luxury service in the comfort of the client’s home. As a makeup artist and esthetician, I found a niche that mixed all my passions. Artistic creativity in formulating customized colors while also ensuring that the solutions were beneficial to the skin. After all who doesn’t love a good sun-kissed glow?

More importantly, who doesn’t want to take care of the skin they are in?

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have been very blessed to have met people along the way who believe in me and my company. They have been a tremendous support as friends, professional networks, and loyal clients.

Every entrepreneur has struggles, it’s what you learn from them that makes the difference. The largest struggle is the pressure I put on myself along the way. I am always pushing to learn more about products, ensuring every angle of our tans is flawless and building the business to the next level.

Le Luxe has currently expanded to Nashville and that is a new client base to introduce to the company but we are excited.

As a business owner, I am most proud of the reputation I have built. Most of our clients are referral-based. I pride myself on providing the best products and services to our clients while building true relationships. It’s a great feeling when all those qualities are recognized by another person.

It has given Le Luxe the great opportunity to expand to Nashville and work on the next chapters of this company’s story.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The beauty industry is a multi-million dollar industry and tanning/skin care is a large percentage of that. I think there is a big shift happening and people are becoming not only more aware but also more concerned with protecting their skin.

They are becoming more careful with how much sun they get, what chemicals they are using, and the overall damage to the skin. I think overall clients will be looking for more botanical tans, something that preserves the skin instead of harming it.
