Community Highlights: Meet Jessica and Lance Herring of Charcuterie Board Workshop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica and Lance Herring. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Our story begins about three years ago when Lance burned a hole in our coffee table. He was so upset about it and insisted he could fix it. So he spends a few days researching woodworking on the internet, and a few days after that, he was on his way home with a truckload of tools! He fixed the coffee table, and we still have it to this day. This has now blossomed into a full-blown hobby in woodworking, and Lance has even been commissioned for custom projects.

Jessica has a background in restaurants, and when we were approached about launching the Nashville branch of Charcuterie Board Workshop, we felt it was a match made in heaven! We have always dreamed of running our own business someday, and here we are!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oddly enough, this business venture came about due to the struggles we faced as a result of the pandemic. Lance works in the music industry as a touring musician, and the cancellations in the industry last year were devastating. Financially, we relied mostly on Lance’s income from touring, and to have that all taken away in *literally* a matter of days was very hard on us. But as a result of that unexpected free time, we were able to really focus on launching this business, and we are very proud to say that we did not let 2020 get us down. We chose to focus and stay positive, and only nine months from officially launching, we see our business grow faster than we’d imagined.

We’ve been impressed with Charcuterie Board Workshop, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’re an experiential workshop here in the heart of Nashville TN, offering an experience that you can’t get anywhere else. We believe it’s one of the unique things to do in Nashville, and it attracts both men, women, and people of all ages. We provide an opportunity to learn something new and bring home a one-of-a-kind, live-edge charcuterie board you make with your own hands to use for a lifetime! It’s a wonderful experience and it’s a one-of-a-kind product. It’s perfect for date nights, girls/guys nights, networking events, and everything in between.

Guests arrive, grab a glass of wine or drink of their choice, eat some delicious charcuterie put together by local businesses made up of local ingredients, and then settle in for a beginner’s woodworking workshop for people with a lot, a little, or no woodworking experience. We teach you about the wood you are working with, then we show you how to debark, sand, and oil your board. And to finish off the evening, we show you how to care for your board so you can love it for years to come.
