Community Highlights: Meet Kelly Blumenberg of Sort & Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Blumenberg.

Hi Kelly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Owning my own organizational business has been a dream of mine for quite some time, and organzing has been in my bones since I was a little girl. I can remember being 8 or 9 years old and regularly reorganizing my room, my desk, and our play areas around the house. There is something about the order, the detail, and the beauty of an organized space that just speaks to my soul.

An Illinois native, I moved to Nashville in 2006 to complete my undergrad at Belmont University. After college, I worked for 7 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, served as an assistant to two different small business owners, and then owned and operated my own clothing boutique for 4 years. I’m married to my high school sweetheart, Jared, and we have two boys who are 6 & 9. When the year of COVID brought change to our family, as it did to so many, the opportunity was right to launch Sort & Co. after so many years of dreaming.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This business is unlike any of the other businesses I’ve worked with because although I am doing organization for every client, no two jobs are the same. Every space is physically different and each client has their own taste and preferences as far as materials, design, and aesthetics. This allows me to be creative with each job, but it has been challenging to try to streamline my processes as much as possible. Early on, I think I spent too much time overthinking how I approached each project. I wanted my plan to be exact before I began, but the nature of home spaces requires flexibility as I get into the nitty-gritty of emptying every cabinet, drawer, closet, etc. Over time, I’ve learned to balance the planned and unplanned aspects of oganizing, and I have so much fun doing my job!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I believe your home should bring feelings of calm and function, not stress and chaos. The Name Sort & Co. encompasses my organizing phylosophy of using these 4 practical steps: Simplify, Organize, Refresh, and Transform, to bring a sense of peace and order to your home.

Simplify.

Sometimes spaces are filled with too many things, but the task of eliminating clutter can be time-consuming and overwhelming. I will help you narrow down your belongings to the pieces you want to keep, and I then help you relocate, donate, or remove everything else!

Organize.

Once we’ve determined what will remain in your space, organization is key. I will create a system that keeps like items together in a functional, visually appealing way. I love to use labels where appropriate to help you maintain your new space.

Refresh.

The word “refresh” just makes me breathe easy. A few updates and careful execution of Simplifying and Organizing can completely change the way your space feels.

Transform.

The transformation is obviously everyone’s favorite part of this process. I will work within your budget to add the necessary products and accents to make your space new!

I think I’m known for the extra time and care I put into each project, and for building relationships with my clients. I understand that inviting me into your home can be a vulnerable experience, and I don’t take the opportunity lightly. Most of my clients are busy spouses, parents, or professionals that are overwhelmed and stressed. I get it! I want my clients to know that I understand where they are at, I have absolutely no judgment for them, and I so deeply want to help them get to a better place. I know how transformative having an organized space, with systems in place to keep it that way, can be for individuals and families. I know how much of a physical, mental, and emotional weight can be lifted from a client when they walk into a peaceful home and not a chaotic one. I’m so passionate about doing this for people because I know how much of a difference it can make in so many areas of their lives. I strive to be more than a contractor who comes into a home for a few days to complete a job. I want to get to know my clients and the ins and outs of their family dynamics and needs because knowing these things helps me make their transformation as functional and sustainable as possible.

I will work in any area of a home (including garages & attics). I offer a free consultation where I come and walk through your home with you and talk about the areas you want help with, and then I make a plan of action. I deep clean each area I work in, and I haul away any trash and donations when I’m finished. Every job is personalized to your needs, and it really is my joy to serve each client.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I would love to collaborate with you! If you are interested in working with Sort & Co., don’t hesitate to reach out! If you know of someone who could use my services, I would love for you to help me spread the word! Even though we are in the digital age, I still strongly believe in personal relationships and word of mouth!
